Yes. You can rename a Palico you hired normally after starting Monster Hunter Rise. At the Buddy Board in the Buddy Plaza, choose the Palico and use the name-change option. Some specially obtained Buddies may not support renaming.
How to rename a Palico
- Go to the Buddy Board in the Buddy Plaza.
- Choose the Buddy name-change option.
- Select the Palico you want to rename and enter its new name.
Capcom’s Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak online manual describes changing a Buddy’s name by selecting the Buddy and entering a new name. The Game8 guide identifies the Buddy Board in the Buddy Plaza as the route to the name-change option. The available instructions establish the menu route, not button-by-button controls.

Which Buddies can be renamed?
The rename option applies to Buddies hired through the usual method. Capcom cautions that some specially obtained Buddies, such as ones received through special methods or downloads, may not support every function, including name changes. If the option is unavailable for a particular Buddy, this restriction may be the reason.

Does the name limit apply to Palicoes?
Game8 reports a maximum of 16 characters for Hunter, Palico, and Palamute names. Capcom’s manual passage describing Buddy name changes does not confirm that limit, so treat it as a secondary-source detail rather than an officially verified rule.

This process changes a Buddy’s name, not the Hunter’s name. The cited instructions establish the Palico-renaming option; they do not establish that a Hunter name can be changed the same way.
