Virgin Media Play’s official guidance does not confirm phone casting to Chromecast, Google Cast TVs, or AirPlay devices. Its TV-device connection page links a device to your account using an on-screen code; that is different from casting or mirroring a phone. Check whether your TV has a Virgin Media Play app or account-linking option, and confirm compatibility for your exact setup with Virgin Media Play support before buying or relying on a casting adapter.
First, make sure you have the right Virgin Media app
Virgin Media Play is Virgin Media Television’s Irish service for Virgin Media One, Two, Three, and Four. It is separate from Virgin TV Go, the UK service. Their device support is not interchangeable: Virgin TV Go’s UK guidance says its app casts only to a Virgin TV box and does not support Chromecast or Firestick, but that does not establish how Virgin Media Play works.
Virgin Media Television’s FAQ describes Play as a free on-demand service that requires a registered account. It lists desktop and laptop computers, Android and iOS devices, Virgin Media or Sky platforms, and NOW TV. It does not list Chromecast or AirPlay, nor does it confirm support for particular smart-TV models.

Why there may be no Cast or AirPlay button
The official Play information does not confirm direct casting from the Android or iOS app to Chromecast, a Google Cast TV, or an AirPlay device. If you do not see a Cast or AirPlay control during playback, the app may not offer that route. General instructions for Google Cast apply to apps that support Cast; they cannot add Cast functionality to an app that does not provide it.

For the same reason, phone screen mirroring is not an established workaround for Virgin Media Play. Its official materials also do not confirm that a wired phone-to-TV HDMI adapter will work. Compatibility may depend on the exact phone, TV, app, and programme, so do not assume a generic receiver or adapter will solve the problem.
What “Connect a Device” does
Virgin Media Play’s Connect a Device page describes linking a TV device to your account: you log in and enter a code displayed on the TV device. It does not describe sending playback from your phone, and it does not name a compatible TV model. Account linking and phone casting are different functions.

Check the TV or streaming device for a Virgin Media Play app or account-linking option. Virgin Media Television’s terms and conditions mention access through a PC, app, or smart TV and say available services can vary by device; they are not a model-by-model compatibility list.

- Account: Virgin Media Play requires a registered account.
- Programme availability: Virgin Media Television says over 90% of broadcast programming is offered for catch-up, but some programmes cannot be streamed because of rights restrictions. Most programmes are available immediately after broadcast; most remain available for 30 days, while some are available for 7 days. These figures are on the FAQ page, which does not state a publication year.
- Location: Most content is available only in the Republic of Ireland. Check the programme’s availability there before troubleshooting a TV connection.
- App and phone software: If playback itself fails, Virgin Media Television advises updating the Play app and your mobile operating system.
Try this in order
- Confirm the app. Check that you are using Virgin Media Play for Ireland, not Virgin TV Go for the UK.
- Update and check availability. Install available updates for the Play app and your phone’s operating system, then check that the programme can be streamed in your location.
- Check playback controls. Look for a Cast or AirPlay control while a programme is playing. Its presence is not confirmed by the official Play documentation; generic Google Cast setup cannot compensate if the app does not support Cast.
- Check the TV’s own options. Look for a Virgin Media Play app or a Connect a Device option on the TV or streaming device. If it shows a code, use the account-linking flow rather than treating it as phone mirroring.
- Ask support about your exact setup. For confirmation or a playback fault, email PlaySupport@virginmedia.ie with your phone and TV or streaming-device models, operating-system versions, and the programme you are trying to watch. Do not rely on a Chromecast, AirPlay receiver, mirroring feature, or HDMI adapter unless support confirms that exact combination.
If you meant Virgin TV Go
Virgin TV Go is Virgin Media’s UK app, not the Irish Virgin Media Play service. The Virgin TV Go help page gives casting guidance for that UK app; its restrictions should not be used as proof of Virgin Media Play compatibility.
