Yes. Wrium is designed to connect ordinary HTML to reactive JavaScript state without requiring a bundler or compiler configuration. You write the markup, define state and event handlers, then mount the app. Its creator positions it for small widgets, prototypes, demos, and learning—not as a proven replacement for a mature framework on a large application.

How Wrium works

Wrium combines reactive JavaScript primitives with a template compiler that reads HTML directly. The markup remains in the page; directives connect it to state and functions. When reactive state changes, Wrium updates the corresponding interface.

The documented primitives have distinct roles:

  • ref holds a reactive value, such as a counter.
  • reactive makes an object or array reactive.
  • computed derives a value from other reactive data, such as the number of unfinished tasks.
  • watchEffect reruns a function when reactive values it reads change.

The creator describes automatic dependency tracking and event handling as part of the library’s workflow. The project site also lists components, plugins, and TypeScript declarations.

How to make a small Wrium widget

The creator’s example installs @wrium/wrium, imports createApp and ref in a JavaScript module, and mounts the app to a page element. This counter illustrates the core pattern; adapt the import and setup to the package version you install.

<div id="app">
  <p>Count: {{ count }}</p>
  <button @click="count++">Add one</button>
</div>

<script type="module">
  import { createApp, ref } from '@wrium/wrium';

  createApp(() => {
    const count = ref(0);
    return { count };
  }).mount('#app');
</script>

The template uses {{ ... }} interpolation to display state and @click as shorthand for v-on. The setup callback creates and returns the state, and mount('#app') attaches the app to the matching element. The creator notes that this module-based example needs to be served from a local server; no build step does not mean no development setup at all.

Directives for common interface tasks

Wrium’s documented template syntax includes familiar-looking directives for conditional content, lists, forms, visibility, text, attributes, and events:

  • v-if, v-else-if, and v-else show conditional content.
  • v-for renders a list from data.
  • v-model binds form input to state.
  • v-show controls visibility.
  • v-text sets text content.
  • v-bind (or :) binds attributes or classes.
  • v-on (or @) attaches event handlers; the creator’s article also demonstrates event modifiers.

A todo list is a natural next exercise: bind an input with v-model, render items with v-for, handle actions with event directives, and derive a remaining-task count with computed.

Components and extensions

The creator’s article demonstrates registering reusable components with app.component() and registering custom directives through plugins. Those capabilities may help organize a widget, but the creator also notes important composition limits: directives, components, and hooks are global rather than scoped to each app instance, and Wrium has no slots or dedicated emit API. The article says a function passed as a prop can serve as the event-callback pattern.

When Wrium fits—and when it may not

Consider it for a contained interface

Wrium may suit a small interactive section on an existing page, a prototype, a demo, or an exercise in learning how reactive interfaces work. Its HTML-first workflow is most relevant when avoiding a build step is valuable and the interface can stay relatively self-contained.

Look elsewhere if the app needs a broader foundation

The creator says Wrium is probably not the best fit for a large application that needs routing, server-side rendering, state management, and a large ecosystem. The creator names Vue, React, and Svelte as alternatives for that situation; this is the creator’s guidance, not an independent comparison of those frameworks.

Browser support, size, and project claims

The creator states that Wrium requires Proxy support and therefore does not support Internet Explorer. If your users include legacy browsers, verify compatibility against your actual support requirements before adopting it.

The Wrium project site advertises version 1.0.0, an MIT license, and a core size of about 10.9 KB minified. These are project-published claims from indexed site content, not independently verified release or size measurements; check the live project or package before relying on them. The creator’s article is dated September 30, but its year is not established in the available page information.

The available sources provide no independent benchmark, adoption statistic, or security or compatibility audit. Treat Wrium’s small-size positioning as a project claim, not evidence that it is faster or safer than another library.

A practical decision checklist

  • Can the interface remain a small widget or contained page feature?
  • Is a local server for JavaScript modules acceptable, even though a bundler is not required?
  • Do the directives and reactive primitives match your preferred way to write templates?
  • Can you work within global registrations and without slots or a dedicated emit API?
  • Does your browser support requirement allow a library that depends on Proxy?
  • Have you checked the live package for its current version, license, and size claims?
