Velvet Launcher’s developer says the experimental Android Auto app can open a browser for Netflix, but that is not a guarantee Netflix will play on every phone or vehicle. The app requires third-party installation steps, and early reports flag audio-sync and browser-login concerns.
What Velvet Launcher does—and what its Netflix claim means
Velvet Launcher is a third-party Android Auto app that opens a browser described as a special version of Chrome. Its developer says the browser can access Netflix and other media. Android Authority reported that claim on October 7, 2026, while noting the app was still early in development: Android Authority’s report.
The developer, posting as Malebuffy77 in the r/AndroidAuto announcement, wrote: “It’s still on early development, but it is working for me.” That describes the developer’s setup, not a verified success rate across Android phones and cars. Treat Netflix access as a reported capability rather than dependable or officially supported Android Auto functionality.
How installation works
This is not presented as a standard app installation that is guaranteed to appear and work in every car. In the announcement, the developer says installation requires AAenabler or Kinginstaller, plus Android Auto developer settings with “unknown sources” enabled. These are developer-reported instructions; the available sources do not establish that either method works on every device, Android version, or vehicle.

- Review the developer’s current release information and installation instructions before proceeding: Velvet Launcher releases.
- Use the developer-identified installation route, AAenabler or Kinginstaller, if it is compatible with your setup.
- Enable Android Auto developer settings and the “unknown sources” option as described by the developer.
- Connect to Android Auto and check whether Velvet Launcher and the browser work on your specific phone and vehicle. A successful installation does not establish that Netflix sign-in or playback will work.
These steps alter the usual app-installation path. Follow instructions from sources you trust, and do not assume the app is supported by Google, Netflix, your phone maker, or your vehicle manufacturer.
Compatibility and known limitations
There is no universal compatibility answer in the available reporting. The developer explicitly cautions that setups differ, and Android Authority also describes the project as early-stage. Whether it launches—and whether Netflix loads and plays—may depend on the particular phone, Android Auto configuration, and vehicle.

- Audio: The developer and Android Authority report slight audio synchronization issues.
- Browser account sign-in: The developer said they had not tried logging into a browser account. The sources therefore do not establish that account login, including Netflix sign-in, is reliable.
- Playback: A browser opening is not proof that Netflix will authenticate, stream, or remain stable during playback on your setup.
Before investing time in setup, decide whether you are willing to troubleshoot those uncertainties. No specific adapter, display, or other hardware requirement is established by the sources.

Velvet Launcher may be worth exploring if you are comfortable with third-party installation and experimental software, and can accept that the outcome may vary. If you need reliable Netflix playback in your car, the evidence here does not establish that Velvet Launcher can provide it. Check current release notes, consider the audio and sign-in caveats, and judge the result on your own phone and vehicle rather than assuming compatibility.
