It may, but HP’s headline figure does not prove that it will. HP says select 2025 Snapdragon OmniBook 5 configurations can play local video for up to 34 hours under a controlled test. That is not a 34-hour estimate for note-taking, browsing, video calls, or other mixed study work. The exact OmniBook 5 model and configuration matter, too.

What does HP’s 34-hour battery claim mean?

HP announced Snapdragon-powered 14-inch and 16-inch OmniBook 5 laptops on May 19, 2025. Its “up to 34 hours” figure refers to local video playback on select configurations, not ordinary study use. HP’s test continuously played a full-screen FHD video from local storage. The 16-inch display was set to 200 nits; system audio was at its default setting, player audio at 100%, and wireless was on but not connected. HP’s announcement and test conditions explain the qualification.

The claim’s specified hardware is a Snapdragon X1-26-100 processor, 16 GB of RAM, a 2K OLED non-touch display, and a 512 GB PCIe SSD. HP says select 14-inch inventory starting in July 2025 may reach up to 34 hours of local playback after panel power-consumption improvements. That wording applies to select inventory and the listed configuration, not every 14-inch OmniBook 5.

HP also says actual battery life varies with configuration, use, and battery condition, and that capacity decreases over time. Video playback is a different workload from a day of classes: study use may involve multiple apps, browser tabs, Wi-Fi, screen changes, and calls. The available official information does not establish a runtime for that mixed workload.

Can an OmniBook 5 last through a day of classes?

The 34-hour claim alone cannot answer that. It indicates that a specified laptop may run a controlled local-video test for a long time; it does not establish how long it lasts under your schedule. If battery life is decisive, look for a test of the exact configuration under a workload and screen brightness similar to yours. No independent mixed-study battery result is established here.

  • Check the workload: Continuous local video is not the same as alternating between notes, web research, documents, and video meetings.
  • Check the configuration: Processor, display, memory, and storage can differ between models. Do not transfer the 34-hour figure to a configuration that does not match HP’s stated requirements.
  • Check the test conditions: Brightness, wireless activity, audio, and battery age affect how useful a runtime figure is for your situation.

Why the exact OmniBook 5 model matters

“OmniBook 5” is a product name used across different configurations and generations, not a single specification. HP’s support pages show, for example, a Snapdragon-based 14-he0000 series, an Intel-based 14-hk0000 series released in January 2026, and an Intel-based 16-af1000 series released in February 2025. The 14-hk0000 listing includes Core 7 150U and Core 5 120U options and a listed 59 Wh battery; those details do not describe the Snapdragon model tested for HP’s 34-hour claim.

Series Platform or distinguishing details What the listing establishes
14-he0000 Snapdragon; HP’s support page identifies it as a Next Gen AI PC series. Configurations and components vary by country or region. HP 14-he0000 specifications
14-hk0000 Intel Core 7 150U or Core 5 120U; listed 59 Wh battery. HP lists a January 2026 release. HP 14-hk0000 specifications
16-af1000 Intel-based 16-inch series. HP lists a February 2025 release. HP 16-af1000 specifications

Before relying on a battery claim, match the full series or SKU to the processor and display in the listing, then check the regional specifications. HP notes that configurations can vary by region, so a family name by itself is not enough to confirm that a model has the hardware required for the 34-hour claim.

How to judge battery life before buying

  1. Find the full model identifier. Use the retailer’s product details or HP’s support specifications page; don’t stop at “OmniBook 5” or the screen size.
  2. Match the hardware. For HP’s stated 34-hour local-video configuration, check for Snapdragon X1-26-100, 16 GB RAM, 2K OLED non-touch, and 512 GB PCIe SSD.
  3. Read the workload behind any runtime. Note whether it is local playback or mixed use, along with brightness and wireless conditions. Results from unlike tests are not directly comparable.
  4. Plan for your own schedule. If you need a full day away from a charger, prioritize evidence from a comparable workload and retain a charging option rather than treating a best-case playback claim as a guarantee.
