Possibly—if you value repairability and long software support more than the lowest upfront price, and are comfortable replacing a part when needed. Fairphone says the Gen. 6+ will receive software support through 2033 and lists 12 user-replaceable parts. Those features make a seven-year ownership plan plausible, but they do not prove the phone will last that long in real-world use. The model launched in 2025, so no seven-year field record exists yet.

What makes the Fairphone Gen 6+ a candidate for seven years?

It is designed to address two common reasons people replace phones: software support ending and a repairable component failing. Fairphone lists support through 2033, a removable battery, and user-replaceable parts that include the display and USB-C port. Whether those advantages add up to seven years for you also depends on app performance, physical damage, parts availability, and your willingness to repair rather than replace the phone.

Be careful to distinguish the Gen. 6+ from the standard Gen. 6. Fairphone lists the Gen. 6+ with 12 GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor; the Gen. 6 has 8 GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. These are different configurations, not interchangeable names for one device. Fairphone’s Gen. 6+ product page lists the current configuration.

How long will the Fairphone Gen 6+ receive software updates?

Fairphone says it will support the phone through 2033 and provide at least seven Android OS upgrades. Its FAQ also describes eight years of software support in total. Fairphone reported Android 16 availability as of March 16, 2026. These are the manufacturer’s commitments and status reports, not evidence that every future app will run well or that the phone has already completed a seven-year support period. Fairphone’s Gen. 6 FAQ gives the support commitment.

For the update cadence, Fairphone’s Android Enterprise information specifies monthly security updates for about three years, then bi-monthly updates from August 2026 until the end of software support in August 2031. That enterprise cadence is a separate, more specific description; it should not be mistaken for a promise of monthly patches throughout the full consumer support commitment. Check the current support information for any later changes. Fairphone’s Android Enterprise page describes that schedule.

Can you replace the Fairphone battery yourself?

Yes. Fairphone lists a removable 4415 mAh battery and identifies it as one of 12 user-replaceable parts. Its repair guide says a Torx T5 screwdriver is needed to access the spare parts and provides replacement steps. This is a more accessible design than a phone whose battery is sealed in and requires more involved disassembly, though it still requires the correct replacement part and careful handling. The Gen. 6 repair guide covers the process.

Fairphone advertises up to two days of battery life. Treat that as a manufacturer claim, not an independently measured result or a guarantee of battery life after years of use. A replaceable battery can help address battery wear, but it does not establish how much a replacement will cost or how readily it will be stocked in your region years from now.

What can you repair, and what will remain uncertain?

Fairphone lists 12 user-replaceable components, including the battery, display, USB-C port, and back cover. Replacing a damaged port or screen could extend the phone’s useful life if the relevant part is available and repair is worthwhile. The design lowers the barrier to some repairs; it cannot eliminate the time, cost, or risk involved.

Long-term parts availability and future replacement prices are not established by the current product information. Nor does it establish compatibility with every third-party accessory or replacement part. Before buying a battery, case, or other component, confirm that it is explicitly compatible with the Gen. 6+ rather than relying on a listing that only says Gen. 6.

Is the Fairphone Gen 6+ economical over seven years?

Fairphone lists the Gen. 6+ at €649. The company also models five-year total costs of €798.85 for its phone and €1,394 for an industry average. Fairphone says the comparison’s repair-price inputs came from three manufacturers’ EU websites, collected July 28–31, 2025, and excluded shipping. It is a manufacturer-produced model, not an independent comparison, and its five-year figures do not establish a seven-year total cost.

Your actual cost will depend on how long you keep the phone, whether anything breaks, repair and shipping prices, and the cost of any replacement phone you avoid buying. Fairphone’s figures are useful context for its own cost argument, but they should not be treated as a forecast for your circumstances.

What trade-offs should you weigh before buying?

  • Water protection: Fairphone lists an IP55 rating. That is not an immersion rating, so do not treat the phone as waterproof or assume it is safe to submerge.
  • Performance: The Gen. 6+ has 12 GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 7s Gen 4. The available facts do not provide independent benchmarks or a seven-year forecast for demanding apps, so consider your own workload and expectations rather than assuming a support commitment guarantees future performance.
  • Warranty: Fairphone lists a five-year warranty and describes a complimentary three-year extension for the Gen. 6. Check the current terms for eligibility, registration, region, and exclusions before relying on the extension. Fairphone’s warranty terms provide the details.
  • Operating system: Fairphone says Android Auto works on stock Fairphone Android. It generally does not work on /e/OS because that operating system removes the proprietary Google services Android Auto depends on. Check the FAQ if that feature or a different operating system matters to your setup.
  • Repair comfort: Replaceable parts are most useful if you are willing to follow a guide and handle repairs, or can access someone who will. If you would replace the entire phone after a fault regardless, repairability may have less value to you.

Who should choose it for a long ownership plan?

The Gen. 6+ is a plausible choice if you want a phone designed for component replacement, intend to use Fairphone’s software support, and are prepared to verify parts and repair costs as needs arise. It is less compelling if your priority is proven seven-year durability, immersion protection, or a precise ownership-cost forecast: those are not established by the manufacturer’s commitments or modeled comparison.

  • [Compatibility] Phone case compatible for Fairphone 6 (2025) & Fairphone 6 Plus+ (2026) Only.

  • [Raised Edge Protection] Elevated bezels safeguard your camera and screen from accidental damage.
  • [Enhanced Grip] Non-slip textured ridges along both side borders and back panel provide a confident hold, significantly reducing accidental hand slips while texting or snapping photos.

In short, Fairphone makes a credible case for trying to keep the phone longer, but seven years remains a plan rather than a demonstrated result. The decision turns on whether its repair design and support commitment are valuable enough to you to accept the remaining uncertainties.
