The Astribot S1 launch video showed a robot making waffles, vacuuming, serving tea and attempting other household-style tasks. But those clips were promotional demonstrations, not proof of reliable everyday home use. Astribot’s current product page describes the S1 as a scientific research robot and publishes developer tools and specifications—not a general consumer product offer.
What did the Astribot S1 video show?
In its August 22, 2024 coverage of Astribot’s launch footage, New Atlas described a varied reel of chores and recreational activities. The robot was shown making waffles, feeding a cat, serving tea, shooting hoops, vacuuming and giving martial-arts instruction. The footage also showed VR-mediated play with the cat.
These examples establish what appeared in the company’s video, not how consistently the S1 can perform those tasks in an ordinary home. The sources reviewed do not provide independent, repeatable household-task testing or a measured reliability rate.
How is the S1 built to move and handle objects?
The launch coverage described a lower body with motorized wheels and a single bending support, rather than two articulated legs. It also described a two-digit gripper. That design description is specific to the launch coverage; the video should not be taken as a full engineering specification.

The New Atlas article noted that the launch footage did not detail the robot’s hardware or AI learning methods, and that a cable was visible. It reported Astribot’s claim that the footage was genuine and recorded at 1× speed, with teleoperation used only for the cat-play segment. Those are company claims reported by the article, not independent verification of the rest of the demonstrations.
What does Astribot currently publish about the S1?
Astribot’s official English S1 product page, checked October 5, 2026, frames the robot as a scientific research version. It lists APIs, developer guidance, simulation support, AI deployment guidance and VR teleoperation data collection. This points to research and development use rather than establishing a generally available consumer home robot.

Can you buy the S1 for a home?
The reviewed official pages do not establish the S1’s consumer availability, sales region, price or a purchase route for households. Astribot’s homepage advertises a price of ¥89,900 CNY for the T1, a different model; it is not an S1 price. A price or listing for the T1 does not establish that the S1 is for sale to consumers.
For a prospective home buyer, the key distinction is between a demonstration and an evaluated product: the launch video shows selected tasks, while current official materials describe a research platform. The sources reviewed do not establish dependable day-to-day chore performance.
