Samsung Health can serve as a hub for data from a Samsung phone and compatible Galaxy Watch, and it can share selected records with Android’s Health Connect—but permissions, device support, and sync delays keep that hub from feeling seamless. The three changes that would make the experience more compelling are clearer, more reliable syncing; broader compatibility and feature availability; and health insights that are easier to interpret and act on. These are product-level improvements, not claims about a particular month-long test: Samsung’s published materials establish what the app supports, but not an individual user’s results.
What Samsung Health can collect and organize
Samsung describes Samsung Health as available on Android phones and tablets and Galaxy Watches. Depending on the device and connected sensors, it can organize steps, exercise, heart rate, sleep, blood oxygen, and body-composition measurements. Phone and watch apps synchronize measurements and manage health data on those devices. Sensor-dependent functions require supported hardware; having the app alone does not provide every measurement. Samsung’s developer guide explains the app’s data and Health Connect integration.
In a June 4, 2026 announcement, Samsung described a redesigned home screen organized around Sleep, Activity, Nutrition, Mindfulness, and Vitals, with wellness tips and an Energy Score. It also announced Vitals, Heart Health Score, Daily Cardio Load, Fitness Index, and changes to Antioxidant Index, AGEs Index, and hearing-health features. Those are Samsung’s product descriptions, not independent evidence that a measurement is accurate or clinically useful. Samsung’s announcement labels the new functions wellness-only, not tools for diagnosing or treating a condition.

How Samsung Health connects to Health Connect
Health Connect is an Android route for sharing selected health and fitness records among apps. Samsung says Samsung Health has supported Health Connect synchronization since version 6.22.5, released in October 2022. The exchange is consent-based: users must enable the connection and grant permissions for the data categories they want to share. Samsung documents sharing in both directions for selected records such as steps, exercise sessions, heart rate, sleep, nutrition, blood oxygen, blood pressure, blood glucose, and weight. The available synchronized scope can change with Samsung Health versions, and Samsung notes that activity-tracker data do not synchronize in the same way as exercise-tracker data. The Samsung guide lists the supported data types and setup details.

Why a watch reading may not show up immediately
Health Connect does not read directly from a Galaxy Watch. Watch measurements reach it through Samsung Health on the phone. Samsung says watch-to-phone data usually synchronize when the watch reconnects, when the Samsung Health home screen is opened, or when the user refreshes it. Continuous heart-rate records may be delayed to conserve battery; manually taken heart-rate readings synchronize immediately. As a result, a combined view is permissioned and can lag rather than update continuously. Samsung’s Health Connect FAQ covers troubleshooting.
How to check the connection
- Update Samsung Health on both the phone and watch.
- On the phone, open Samsung Health and go to Settings > Health Connect > App permissions. Turn on permission for each record type you want to share.
- If Samsung Health data still do not appear, go to Settings > Sync with Samsung account > Sync now in Samsung Health.
Samsung documents this sequence in its FAQ; menu names can change between app versions, so use the closest current settings labels if your screen differs.

What the newer insights require
The newer features Samsung announced depend on more than installing the app. Samsung lists Android 10 or later, Samsung Health version 7.0, a compatible Galaxy Watch with One UI 9, and a Samsung account as prerequisites for the update, with additional requirements varying by feature. Availability can also vary by country, region, and language. The following are Samsung-stated setup and data-history requirements—not independent performance statistics. See Samsung’s announcement and feature footnotes.
| Feature | Samsung-stated requirement |
|---|---|
| Vitals setup | Wear the watch for 7 out of 28 nights. |
| Heart Health Score setup | 24 hours of data, including awake and asleep time. |
| Daily Cardio Load | At least 7 days of activity records; Samsung recommends 28 days of continuous wear for optimal accuracy. |
| Fitness Index | At least one BIA measurement, one VO2Max measurement, and two days of activity and step data. |
These prerequisites can make the app feel less like an instant dashboard: some insights depend on a compatible watch and a history of wear or activity before setup is complete. Samsung says the features are for wellness, not diagnosis or treatment. Use them as general context, not as a substitute for professional medical advice or evaluation.

Three fixes that would make Samsung Health a must-use
1. Make sync status and delays unmistakable
The current setup involves granting category-by-category permissions, and watch records travel through the phone before reaching Health Connect. Samsung also describes different timing for continuous and manually measured heart rate. A stronger hub would show, for each category, which app or device supplied it, the time of the latest successful sync, and whether a permission is missing or a transfer is still pending. That would turn “the data isn’t here” into a diagnosable status rather than a guessing game.
2. Reduce device and regional uncertainty
Samsung’s announced insights have prerequisites that vary by feature, while availability may depend on country, region, and language. A single compatibility screen could identify the user’s phone, watch, software, account, and location, then clearly say which functions are available and what is missing for the others. The broader benefit would be less time spent expecting a score that a particular setup cannot provide.

- QUICK UPDATES, AT A GLANCE: Get updates, select apps and more with Now Bar³,⁴ and an improved user experience. Now Bar conveniently puts the info you use the most - like weather, news and more - right on your main Watch screen
3. Make insights easier to understand and use
Samsung presents scores and indices as wellness insights, but the announcement does not independently establish their accuracy or clinical value. For a hub to be useful, it should explain what each score summarizes, which measurements and time period contributed, what could make the result incomplete, and what a user can reasonably do with it. That explanation should preserve the distinction between a wellness trend and a medical assessment.
Who should use Samsung Health as a hub?
It is a practical starting point for someone already using a compatible Samsung phone and Galaxy Watch who wants to organize common activity and wellness measurements and share selected records with other Android apps through Health Connect. It is a less complete fit if the goal is immediate cross-app updates, if a needed feature depends on watch hardware the user does not have, or if a particular announced insight is unavailable in the user’s region. Before relying on it as a central record, check the exact phone and watch compatibility, grant only the data permissions you intend to share, and confirm that the categories you care about actually arrive in the connected app.
