Some RF connectors use PEEK as the dielectric, and others use PTFE. The available product listings and reference data do not show that RF connectors as a category are moving from PTFE to PEEK. A PEEK-dielectric part also cannot be swapped into a PTFE design on material grounds alone, because the dielectric change affects impedance and mechanical fit. The useful question is not whether PEEK is replacing PTFE, but whether a specific PEEK connector can take the place of a specific PTFE connector in your design. Answering that requires the part numbers, the drawings, and the manufacturer’s ratings.
What is established and what is not
The evidence supports one narrow statement: PEEK is used as the dielectric in some RF coaxial connectors, and PTFE is used in others. No published market-share figure, adoption rate, or industry survey was found that would support a claim that the connector market is switching from PTFE to PEEK. Treat “RF connectors replace PTFE with PEEK” as a headline shorthand that the available evidence cannot carry.
Reference values for the two materials
HUBER+SUHNER’s Connector Guide tabulates bulk material properties for PEEK and PTFE. The copy hosted at this third-party-hosted PDF does not state a publication year, so treat the figures as the guide’s reference values rather than current catalogue data. The guide itself cautions that values may be approximate because purity and composition vary between grades.
| Property | PEEK | PTFE |
|---|---|---|
| Dielectric constant (1 MHz) | 3.3 | 2.1 |
| Temperature range (material) | -70 to +250 °C | -200 to +260 °C |
| Tensile strength | 92.0 N/mm² | 27 N/mm² |
| Modulus of elasticity | 3900 N/mm² | 460 N/mm² |
| Electrical resistivity | 5×1016 Ωcm | greater than 1×1018 Ωcm |
The table is a list of trade-offs. PEEK has the higher dielectric constant, a far higher tensile strength, and a much higher modulus, which makes it stiffer. PTFE has the wider temperature range and the higher electrical resistivity. None of these values describes how a finished connector will perform at RF.

Why a dielectric change is a design change
In a coaxial line, impedance depends on the conductor dimensions and on the dielectric surrounding the centre conductor. The guide states that an increasing dielectric constant reduces impedance in the coaxial geometry it describes. Replacing PTFE (2.1) with PEEK (3.3) while keeping the same conductor geometry would therefore move impedance away from the target value. The conductor geometry has to be reviewed and verified. A material-only swap is not electrically transparent.
The guide’s general relationship explains the direction of the effect, but a connector’s validated drawings and measurements are what establish its impedance.

The two listings are not a controlled comparison. Orientation, profile height, and engagement feature all differ, so no performance difference can be assigned to the dielectric from these pages. The PTFE part is not a drop-in replacement for the PEEK part. Each TE product page directs design work to the product drawing; check the drawing for each part before drawing conclusions about fit. The PEEK listing is at TE Connectivity product 2477310-1, and the PTFE listing is at TE Connectivity product 2477330-1.

How to evaluate a PEEK or PTFE substitution
- Confirm the exact part number on both sides of the mating pair. The part number, not the series name, governs the ratings.
- Compare the mounting type, orientation, footprint, and profile against your board or cable layout, using each manufacturer’s drawing.
- Check the rated impedance and frequency range in the product specification.
- Use the operating temperature limit from the product listing, which may differ from the bulk material range above.
- Ask the manufacturer for validated impedance and RF data at your intended frequency and conditions, and confirm the mechanical engagement with your mating part.
- Qualify the candidate in your own application, including fit, assembly steps, and any environmental test your product requires, before changing the specified part.
Where the evidence stops
- No published market-share, adoption, or trend figure establishes that PEEK is replacing PTFE in RF connectors.
- The material table does not give RF loss, service life, or assembly performance for any connector, so none of those can be compared between PEEK and PTFE designs from these sources.
- The two TE listings are the only connector pair examined here, so they illustrate the selection process rather than representing the whole product range.
