“Nano-cables” in this battery story are carbon nanotubes coated with titanium dioxide (TiO₂), proposed as an electrode architecture—not cables for charging devices. The idea was reported as a possible route to better batteries, but the available report does not establish that a finished battery achieved higher capacity, longer life, or improved safety.
What “nano-cables” means in this battery report
The term describes a nanoscale material structure: carbon nanotubes coated with titanium dioxide. The concept concerns how electrode materials might be arranged inside a battery. It is not a consumer accessory, a charging cable, or a battery product.
A Chemistry World report presented the material as a possible path toward higher-capacity batteries. That is a reported prospect, not a verified cell-performance result. The report’s underlying primary study and quantitative battery results are not established by the available source material.
What the report does—and does not—show
The reported idea is an electrode-material concept. Evidence that a material may be useful in an electrode is not, by itself, proof that a complete battery performs better. To support that conclusion, results would need to identify the tested cell and report relevant measures such as capacity, energy, cycle life, and operating conditions.

The report quotes Joachim Maier of the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research saying, “Titanium dioxide on its own is totally unsuitable for electrodes.” This caution matters: the coating alone should not be represented as solving electrode limitations. The report does not provide enough primary-study data to determine how the proposed architecture performed in a finished battery.
A similarly named supercapacitor study is a different result
A 2012 Royal Society of Chemistry study also uses a nano-cable architecture, but it examined manganese dioxide (MnO₂) and polypyrrole coated onto carbon nanofibers as a supercapacitor electrode. That is a different material system and energy-storage application from the TiO₂-coated carbon nanotubes in the battery report.

The figures are reported by the authors of the 2012 article, published in the Journal of Materials Chemistry. They clarify a separate use of “nano-cables”; they are not results for the titanium-dioxide/carbon-nanotube battery concept.

A convincing comparison would need to distinguish isolated electrode measurements from full-cell testing and compare like with like. Relevant details include the battery chemistry and cell configuration, capacity and energy, cycle life, rate performance, material loading, and test conditions. Laboratory electrode results alone would not establish commercial readiness or performance in a consumer battery.
