MSI and ADATA announced a 128GB, four-rank DDR5 CUDIMM, making 256GB possible with two such modules in a two-DIMM configuration. MSI’s PRO Z890-P specifications independently list a 256GB maximum and CUDIMM support. That establishes a plausible capacity path—not universal compatibility: check the exact motherboard’s memory compatibility list, BIOS support, CPU, and expected operating speed before buying.

What MSI and ADATA announced

In a November 14, 2025 announcement, MSI said it and ADATA had launched a desktop four-rank CUDIMM with up to 128GB on a single stick. Two modules of that capacity would total 256GB in a two-DIMM motherboard configuration.

The announcement also described an MSI Z890 motherboard as “under development.” It therefore does not establish that every retail Z890 board had validated the announced module, or that a particular 128GB module is listed as compatible with a given board.

What MSI Z890 specifications establish

PRO Z890-P

MSI’s PRO Z890-P specification page, accessed October 8, 2026, lists four DDR5 UDIMM slots, a 256GB maximum memory capacity, and CUDIMM support. This makes it a concrete example of a mainstream Z890 board whose published capacity matches the announced 256GB target. The specification does not, by itself, confirm a specific 128GB CUDIMM SKU.

MEG Z890 GODLIKE

MSI’s MEG Z890 GODLIKE specification page, also accessed October 8, 2026, lists a 256GB maximum and CUDIMM support. Its published memory-speed figures vary according to DIMMs per channel and whether the modules are single- or dual-rank. Those figures should not be treated as the expected speed for a two-module, four-rank 256GB setup.

Capacity does not tell you the memory speed

A 128GB-per-stick rating describes capacity, not the speed a full-capacity system will achieve. MSI states on the PRO Z890-P specification page: “Memory compatibility and supported speeds can vary depending on the CPU and memory configuration.” In practice, module count and rank are important when interpreting published speed limits.

The MSI/ADATA announcement says a module completed stable burn-in testing at over 10,000 MT/s “with 1 Rank.” That is a narrowly scoped result; it is not a speed claim for the announced four-rank 128GB stick or for a 256GB build. Do not assume an advertised high-speed figure applies to a different rank or capacity configuration.

How to check compatibility before buying

  1. Identify the exact board model and revision. Use the manufacturer page for the specific MSI Z890 motherboard rather than relying on a general statement about the chipset or brand.
  2. Open its memory compatibility list (QVL). Look for the exact module model number and capacity, not just another module from the same manufacturer or a lower-capacity kit.
  3. Check the current BIOS and CPU support information. MSI’s Z890 GAMING PLUS WIFI support page, accessed October 8, 2026, shows a July 14, 2026 BIOS listing and mentions improved compatibility and overclocking for four 64GB DIMMs totaling 256GB. That note concerns that four-module configuration; it does not validate a 128GB CUDIMM.
  4. Confirm the intended configuration and speed. Verify whether the board supports the desired total capacity with two 128GB modules, and check the speed qualifications for your CPU, DIMM count, and rank configuration.
  5. Recheck the listing before purchase. The available MSI specifications and announcement do not establish retail pricing, availability, or a current QVL entry for a particular 128GB module on each Z890 board.

What this means for a 256GB build

The announced ADATA four-rank CUDIMM offers a route to 256GB with two sticks, while MSI’s PRO Z890-P and MEG Z890 GODLIKE specifications each list 256GB maximum capacity and CUDIMM support. Those facts support the capacity story, but they are not a substitute for model-specific validation. Buy only after the exact board’s current QVL and support information match the module and configuration you intend to use.
