Yes—Meta says Muse can browse websites and carry out shopping steps, but it does not buy without your approval. At launch, checkout used Stripe Link: Muse could use a payment method saved in Link at participating businesses, or a single-use virtual card elsewhere. Whether Muse can reach a particular retailer is a separate question; retailers can block it.
What Muse can do in a shopping task
Meta describes Muse as a personal AI agent that can open a browser, fill out forms, and keep working after you close the app. That means it can do more than suggest products: it can navigate a purchase flow. Meta says it checks with the person before sensitive actions such as making a purchase. Stripe says the shopper approves the transaction total in chat.
These steps do not mean Muse has unrestricted access to every online store. A payment method and permission to use a retailer’s site are separate requirements.

How Muse checkout works
Meta and Stripe described two payment paths at Muse’s September 8, 2026 launch. Which one applies depends on the retailer’s payment setup.

| Where you are checking out | Payment path described at launch | Approval and limits |
|---|---|---|
| A business that accepts Stripe Link | Muse can use the consumer’s preferred payment method saved in Link. | Stripe says the user approves the purchase total in chat. |
| A business that does not accept Link | Link can issue a single-use virtual card for the purchase. | Meta says the card is limited to the merchant and approved amount and is valid for a limited time. |
| A website where you already have payment details saved | Meta says Muse detects the checkout page and presents the purchase details for approval. | Meta says you see the exact purchase details and must approve before the purchase proceeds. |
Stripe said more than 1 million businesses accepted Link in 2026, and reported more than 300 million Link users globally. Those are Stripe’s figures for its payment service—not counts of businesses where Muse has successfully shopped or of people using Muse to buy.
What you approve—and what you control
Approval is the key human checkpoint in the launch description. For Link checkout, Stripe says the shopper approves the transaction total in chat. For a site using payment details already saved there, Meta says Muse presents the exact purchase details before asking for approval. Meta’s description of a virtual card also ties it to a merchant, an amount, and a limited validity period.

Meta says people choose which connected apps Muse can use and what access they have, and can disconnect a service. Its technical account describes Sentinel as a separate component that governs whether connector actions and network requests are allowed. These are Meta’s descriptions of its controls, not a guarantee that an agent will never make an error.
Why Muse may not be able to shop at a retailer
Retailer access is not assured by Link or by Muse’s ability to browse. Axios reported on September 21, 2026 that Amazon had blocked Muse from browsing and purchasing on its platform. Amazon said it had not authorized Muse to access customer accounts, scrape data, or process transactions, and cited security and user-experience concerns. That report demonstrates a limit at Amazon; it does not establish that other retailers have taken the same position.

In practice, a shopping task can stop before payment if a site does not permit the agent to access or act on it. A usable payment method cannot override a retailer’s access decision.
How Meta describes Muse’s security boundaries
Meta says Muse runs in a dedicated cloud virtual machine, with credentials held in secure storage so the main agent cannot see the secrets. Meta’s technical account says Sentinel governs permissions and network access, while approval requests appear in the client when required.

Meta also acknowledges that Muse can make mistakes. It says the virtual-machine setup does not prevent Meta from accessing information when necessary to support, secure, or operate the service. Treat these as design measures described by Meta—not a promise that data is inaccessible to Meta or that a purchase cannot go wrong.

At launch, Meta said Shop Pay support was coming soon. The sources cited here do not establish whether that integration became available afterward, so Link is the checkout method that can be described as part of the launch arrangement.
