Yes. JBL says all four Cinema SB MK2 soundbars support its SurroundPlay feature, which wirelessly uses two JBL Flip 7 speakers as rear channels. JBL named the Flip 7 as the compatible portable speaker at launch; its announcement does not confirm compatibility with other JBL portable speakers.
How the portable-speaker surround pairing works
With SurroundPlay, a pair of compatible portable speakers serves as rear channels for a Cinema SB MK2 soundbar. JBL’s launch announcement identifies the Flip 7 as the compatible model, so the stated setup requires two Flip 7 speakers—not one. The announcement does not explain setup steps or establish that the resulting surround effect performs like a system with dedicated rear speakers.
Which Cinema SB MK2 models support SurroundPlay?
JBL says all four announced models support the feature. They differ in channel layout, Dolby format, subwoofer configuration, and HDMI connections:

| SB580MK2 | 3.1; Dolby Atmos | Wireless 6.5-inch subwoofer | HDMI-IN and HDMI eARC |
| SB550MK2 | 3.1; Dolby Audio | Wireless 5.25-inch subwoofer | HDMI ARC |
| SB510MK2 | 3.1; Dolby Audio | Built-in subwoofer | HDMI ARC |
JBL lists a dedicated centre channel on each model, as well as Bluetooth and Auracast across the series. If up-firing drivers and the 3.1.2 layout matter to you, the SB595MK2 is the only announced option with both. The SB580MK2 also supports Dolby Atmos, but is a 3.1 model without the listed up-firing drivers.

What to consider before buying
- Already own Flip 7 speakers? JBL’s stated pairing feature is designed to put a pair to use as rear channels. If you would need to buy two speakers specifically for this setup, account for that alongside the soundbar.
- Need HDMI eARC? JBL lists eARC and HDMI-IN for the SB595MK2 and SB580MK2. The SB550MK2 and SB510MK2 list HDMI ARC instead.
- Choosing a bass setup? The SB595MK2 and SB580MK2 have wireless 6.5-inch subwoofers, the SB550MK2 has a wireless 5.25-inch subwoofer, and the SB510MK2 has a built-in subwoofer.
- Expecting a particular surround performance? JBL’s announcement describes the Flip 7 speakers as rear channels but does not provide independent listening tests or measurements comparing them with dedicated rear speakers.
Availability
In its September 28, 2026 announcement, JBL said the Cinema SB MK2 series would be available in select markets from October 1, 2026 at JBL.com. The announcement does not list every launch market or confirm current inventory in a particular location, so check JBL’s regional site for availability.
