Not reliably for a new recurring YouTube channel membership in India. Google says recurring plans for channel memberships are temporarily turned off in India and advises viewers to use prepaid plans instead. However, its guidance does not confirm that UPI is available for prepaid membership checkout for every viewer. Check the payment methods displayed in the creator’s YouTube Join flow before proceeding.
Channel memberships are different from YouTube Premium
A YouTube channel membership is a paid relationship with a specific creator. It can provide perks such as badges and members-only benefits, and YouTube describes it as a monthly payment charged at the start of each billing cycle. It is not the same product as YouTube Premium or Google One. YouTube’s channel-member billing guidance explains the membership billing arrangement.
Google Play says UPI can be used for subscriptions offered by eligible apps and describes UPI AutoPay mandates, citing YouTube Premium and Google One as examples. That general support does not establish that creator channel memberships accept UPI. Google Play’s India payment-method guidance covers Play subscriptions, not a blanket UPI guarantee for every YouTube product.
What Google says about recurring memberships in India
Google Pay Help states: “Recurring plans for channel memberships are temporarily turned off. Use prepaid plans to use this service.” The guidance is in “Changes to automatic payments in India per RBI regulations.” This means UPI AutoPay should not be treated as a way to bypass the current restriction on recurring channel-membership plans.

Google’s prepaid recommendation does not confirm that every account will see a prepaid option or that UPI will be accepted for it. The available payment methods can depend on the membership checkout shown to your account, so the Join flow is the practical source of confirmation.
How to check whether UPI is offered for a membership
- Open the creator’s YouTube channel or a video from that channel while signed in.
- Select Join, if the creator has enabled memberships and the option is available to you.
- Review the membership level, price, billing arrangement, and payment methods shown on the checkout screen.
- If UPI appears as a payment option, follow the prompts to complete that checkout. If it does not appear, the official guidance does not provide a way to assume it will work through another UPI mandate.
YouTube’s membership instructions for Android describe the Join flow. Availability and payment methods presented there are more useful for your account than a general statement that UPI works for some Google Play subscriptions.

Why a recurring payment may still need attention
For recurring payments where they are available, YouTube says viewers in India may need to verify or re-enter payment details because of RBI eMandate requirements. A viewer’s bank may also not support recurring payments. These are possible payment hurdles, not confirmation that recurring channel memberships are currently available in India. See YouTube’s billing and payment information for channel members.

Membership prices vary by channel and signup timing
There is no single universal price for every creator membership. YouTube’s India pricing page lists multiple rupee price points, and says pricing updates that began rolling out gradually in May 2025 can mean the price differs depending on when a viewer joins. Check the amount shown for the membership level in the Join checkout rather than relying on a price list as the amount for a particular channel.
