Possibly—but an internal Wi-Fi card is only upgradeable when your exact laptop model supports a compatible replacement. Check the laptop maker’s service manual and supported-parts list before buying: the socket, electrical interface, firmware, and regional approval all matter, and a card that fits physically may still fail to work.
Identify your laptop before choosing a card
Record the manufacturer, full model or product number, generation, and country where you use the laptop. Those details are needed to find the right service manual and parts list. Without them, it is not possible to confirm whether your card is replaceable or name a compatible replacement.
Use the laptop maker’s service documentation to check whether the wireless module can be replaced, which part numbers it supports, and whether firmware restrictions apply. Intel notes that manufacturers can limit supported adapters, customize drivers, or impose regulatory requirements that affect installation or recognition. Before buying a replacement, verify every item below against the laptop maker’s documentation and the card’s specifications. M.2 describes a family of module formats; it does not, by itself, establish compatibility.

- Form factor and key: Confirm the card’s dimensions and that its key matches the laptop’s wireless socket.
- Electrical interface: Check whether the laptop’s motherboard, BIOS, and M.2 port support the card’s interface. For the AX200, Intel identifies PCIe and gives an M.2 Key A or Key E port as an example. Intel states, “The motherboard, BIOS, and the M.2 port need to compatible with the Wireless Adapter.” See its AX200 compatibility guidance.
- CNVi or CNVio: Do not treat an Intel companion RF (CRF) module as interchangeable with a standard PCIe wireless card. Intel says CNVi/CRF modules work only with select Intel processors and chipsets in systems designed for Integrated Connectivity. Intel’s CNVi and CRF explanation describes this platform-specific requirement.
- Firmware and manufacturer approval: Check for restrictions on supported adapters and any manufacturer-approved part numbers. A module can fit yet remain unsupported or unrecognized.
- Country and regulatory approval: Confirm that the laptop maker permits the adapter for your model and region. Approval cannot be determined without knowing the laptop and country.
- Other system requirements: Compare supported Wi-Fi bands and generation, Bluetooth support, operating-system and driver availability, and antenna connections with the laptop’s documented configuration.
Is the Intel AX210 a compatible upgrade?
The Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX210 M.2 2230 (AX210NGW) is a candidate to investigate, not a universal laptop upgrade. Intel’s AX210 product brief lists Wi-Fi 6E, a 2×2 radio, Bluetooth 5.2, PCIe/USB interfaces, and an M.2 2230 AX210NGW model. Intel also lists a 1216 form factor for the AX210 family, so confirm the exact module variant and laptop socket rather than assuming all AX210 cards have the same dimensions.
The laptop’s design must support the card’s socket, interface, firmware, and regulatory requirements. Wi-Fi 6E availability also depends on the laptop platform, operating system, router or network, and local rules for 6 GHz use. Intel’s AX210 IOT kit requirements specify an M.2 2230 Key E connector for that kit; that requirement is not proof that a particular laptop supports an AX210.

Do not confuse the AX210 with CNVi companion RF products such as the AX211 or AX411. Those require a platform designed for Intel Integrated Connectivity; confirm the exact laptop platform in its service documentation.

- Module form factor and key.
- Wi-Fi generation and supported bands.
- Bluetooth support, operating-system drivers, and antenna connections.
- Manufacturer approval for your exact laptop and region.
- Cost.
Do not rank cards by headline Wi-Fi generation alone. The laptop’s supported hardware and your network determine which features you can actually use.

Once you have confirmed an approved part, use the service manual for your exact model to plan the replacement. The tools, shutdown and battery-disconnect steps, cover removal, and antenna handling vary by laptop. There is no safe universal teardown procedure to apply without the model-specific instructions.
