Usually, no: backlight bleed is not expected to disappear on its own. It is related to how an LCD panel and its layers are assembled. You can make it less noticeable by adjusting brightness and room lighting, but that does not repair a physical light-uniformity issue. First check whether you are seeing angle-dependent IPS glow; if the bright area is distracting during ordinary use, ask the seller or manufacturer to assess your specific display.
What backlight bleed is—and why it usually stays
LCD displays use layers that control how light passes through the screen. Small differences in layer alignment or pressure can allow more light through in particular areas, appearing as bright patches or leakage, often near an edge or corner. Intel describes these causes for its X15 laptop display and says in its official support article that “Backlight bleeding cannot be completely eliminated.” That statement is specific to Intel’s product guidance, but it illustrates why you should not count on a physical panel effect fading with time. Intel Support; LG Support.
The official guidance reviewed does not establish a rate at which bleed resolves naturally or a repair method that reliably removes it. Treat changes to brightness or room lighting as ways to reduce visibility, not as a fix.
Check whether it is IPS glow instead
IPS glow and backlight bleed can look similar on a dark screen, but their behavior differs. Lenovo says IPS glow on applicable Lenovo/Idea IPS systems can appear as a white glow near a corner and change or disappear when you view the display straight on. It contrasts this with bleed that remains visible across viewing angles. This is guidance for the systems covered by Lenovo’s article, not a universal rule for every display. Lenovo Support.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Changes with viewing angle: more consistent with IPS glow, especially if it fades when you look perpendicularly.
- Stays in the same area from different angles: more consistent with backlight bleed.
Check from your usual seating position as well as straight on. A symptom that appears only from an unusual angle or on a black test screen may not reflect what you will see in everyday use.
Assess it under normal viewing conditions
A full-black image in a dark room makes light leakage conspicuous and can exaggerate how distracting it seems in ordinary use. ASUS recommends evaluating light leakage with the display in normal lighting, at least 150 lux. That is ASUS’s assessment guidance; it does not establish a universal acceptance threshold for all monitor makers. ASUS Support.

- Set the display to the brightness you normally use.
- Turn on ordinary room lighting and sit at your usual viewing distance and angle.
- Look at the screen during the kinds of content you normally view, not only a full-black test image.
- Note whether the bright area is still distracting and whether it changes when you view the screen straight on.
Make bleed less noticeable
- Lower screen brightness. Less emitted light can make bright patches less obvious.
- Increase ambient room lighting. A lit room reduces the contrast between the screen and its surroundings.
- Try lighter backgrounds or themes. Bright leakage is generally easiest to notice against black or very dark content.
Intel lists brightness, ambient lighting and lighter themes as ways to minimize the effect on its X15 display. These steps change how visible the issue is; they do not realign panel layers or establish that a hardware problem has been repaired. Intel Support.
Decide whether to keep, return or seek service
There is no universal backlight-bleed threshold in the manufacturer guidance cited here. Lenovo’s statement that a described black-boot-screen effect is within specification applies to the Lenovo/Idea systems covered by its article; it should not be treated as an acceptance rule for other models. Whether a particular unit qualifies for a return, repair or replacement depends on the model, seller policy, warranty and region.

If the bright area remains distracting in normal lighting and ordinary use, contact the seller or manufacturer. Share the exact model, purchase details and photos taken under ordinary viewing conditions. Ask support how the issue is assessed for that unit and what options apply under your return window or warranty.
Avoid pressing or massaging the panel, opening the display, or attempting modifications as a remedy. The official sources cited here do not recommend those actions as a fix.
