Not reliably, and not as a verified record. Facebook and Instagram have offered election-cycle features that let people share that they voted, but those were voluntary posts tied to particular U.S. elections. Snapchat’s documented election tools focused on registration and voting information, not a list of friends who cast ballots. A post or sticker can tell you what someone chose to report; it cannot prove that they voted or that their ballot was counted.
What the apps can—and cannot—tell you
There are two different kinds of election features: social sharing, where a person chooses to post “I Voted,” and civic-information tools, which help people check registration or find voting resources. Neither is the same as an official record of another person’s ballot.

Facebook: friends could see a self-reported vote
Facebook’s historical U.S. Election Day features let adults share that they had voted. In its 2012 announcement, Meta said users over 18 could click “I’m Voting” or “I’m a Voter” and post a story to their Timeline, where it could also appear in friends’ News Feeds. Meta reported that more than 5.4 million people indicated on Facebook that they voted on Election Day 2008, and more than 12 million clicked the voting button during the 2010 midterm election. In 2014, Facebook again prompted U.S. users to share with friends that they had voted. Its map displayed aggregated reports and removed personal details such as names. Meta also said a study in Nature found that seeing friends’ voting activity led to 340,000 additional people turning out; that figure is Meta’s account of the study, not an independently established ballot count in the platform announcement. These examples show that Facebook has previously made a user’s voluntary report visible to friends. They do not establish that the feature is available in the current Facebook app.
Instagram: the “We Voted!” Story was a 2018 feature
For the 2018 U.S. midterm Election Day, Instagram introduced an “I Voted” sticker for Stories. When several accounts someone followed posted a Story using the sticker, a “We Voted!” Story could appear at the front of the Stories bar; tapping it brought those accounts’ posts together. That account is a contemporaneous republication of Instagram’s announcement, not a current Instagram help page. It documents what was offered for that election, not what the app offers now.

Snap’s 2024 U.S. election partnership with Vote.org was described as a way for Snapchatters to check their own registration status, register, sign up for reminders, and make an Election Day plan inside the app. Vote.org’s announcement describes the same partnership. Snap’s 2022 midterm materials also described tools for contacting friends who still needed to register and a Voting 101 hub. Helping a friend register or learn how voting works is peer organizing; it does not reveal whether that friend later cast a ballot. Snap’s 2022 announcement
What current election announcements establish
Meta’s retrospective on 2024 elections describes voter-information notifications, links to official information, and Instagram Story stickers directing users to voting information. Its February 2026 U.S. midterm announcement likewise describes voter-information alerts and stickers. So if you see a friend post a voting sticker or status, treat it as that person’s own report. If you do not see one, that does not tell you whether they voted: they may not have posted, or the feature may not be available to them.

How to check voting information with friends
For registration status, polling locations, deadlines, or an Election Day plan, use official election resources rather than trying to infer voting from social posts. The U.S. Election Assistance Commission recommends directing people to official sources for registration and polling-place information, and suggests encouraging friends to vote together. - Ask a friend directly if they want to share whether they voted; do not treat silence on social media as an answer.
- Use an official election website for registration and voting logistics, since requirements and locations depend on where you live.
- Do not assume a sticker or post proves that a ballot was submitted or counted.
