A research team reported a chip-based sensor that detected mutated cell-free nucleic acids in serum with a 15-minute assay readout. The 2015 result was a laboratory research demonstration involving samples from people with lung cancer and melanoma—not evidence of a clinically validated public screening test.
What the sensor detected
The assay looked for mutated cell-free nucleic acids (cfNAs) in serum. These are genetic fragments circulating outside cells; some can be shed by tumors. The target was therefore a mutation sequence in the sample, not cancer cells themselves.
In a 2015 paper in Nature Chemistry, Jagotam Das and colleagues described testing patient sample collections involving lung cancer and melanoma. Their work focused on distinguishing a mutated sequence from closely related sequences that can also come from healthy cells.

The method used oligonucleotide “clamps” together with an electrochemical sensor. In solution, the clamps sequester sequences closely related to the target mutation. This leaves the mutated sequence available to bind to the sensor, which produces an electrochemical readout.
#1 Best Overall
- Early Detection: Colon Cancer Screening Test Kit is designed to detect bowel cancer in its early stages through a simple stool sample (feces) test. The test is easy to perform and provides accurate results within minutes, allowing for quick detection and treatment.
- Preferred Screening Method - Colon test kit for cancer is a FIT test, the preferred annual stool screening method for colon cancer according to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance and Cleveland Clinic.
- No Preparation Required: Unlike other testing methods, FOB test Kit requires no special preparation or diet changes, making it a convenient and hassle-free option for at-home testing.
- Fast and Easy-to-Use: Colon cancer Test at home and get results in just 10 minutes, with no mail-in lab testing required.
- High Accuracy - The colorectal cancer screening test is over 99% accurate.
The authors reported detecting mutations without enzymatic amplification. That describes a feature of the experimental assay; it does not establish that the entire process required no other sample preparation or clinical workflow steps.
What “within 15 minutes” means
The paper reports a mutation readout within 15 minutes. That is the assay readout time—not a claim that blood collection, sample handling, testing, medical interpretation, and communication of a result all take 15 minutes.
Rank #2
The study reported detection in patient sample collections, but the evidence cited does not provide a population-level screening statistic or clinical outcome figure establishing that the method can reliably screen the general public. A research demonstration alone also does not establish broad clinical validation, clinical utility, or regulatory authorization.

Is this a cancer test people can use?
The 2015 paper describes an experimental assay. It does not establish that the sensor became a routinely used clinical test or a consumer product. A patent record describes possible system, method, kit, and point-of-care device embodiments, but a patent is not proof that a product was launched or adopted in clinical care.
Rank #3
- Quick Results Get your results in just 10 minutes with 99% accuracy.
- For Everyone Detects stool blood early.
- Trusted & Affordable Offers reliable and budget-friendly colon cancer screening.
- Home Convenience Screen at home with no doctor's visits or lab drop-offs needed.
- Early Detection Catch signs of colon issues early for better treatment outcomes.
The cited evidence does not settle the assay’s current commercial availability or clinical adoption. The supported conclusion is narrower: researchers demonstrated a 15-minute assay readout for mutations in serum samples from lung cancer and melanoma patient collections.
