No—not with a laptop alone. A laptop screen displays the image on its own panel; it does not cast an enlarged picture onto a wall. If you need the image physically on the wall, you need a projector. If you just want a bigger view, connect the laptop to a TV or monitor; the picture will appear on that screen, not the wall.
Why a laptop screen cannot project onto a wall
A laptop panel emits light to display an image on the screen itself. Projecting an image onto a separate surface requires projection optics that direct and enlarge light onto that surface. Mirroring a laptop to another display sends the image to that display’s panel; it does not turn a nearby wall into a screen. Choose the right way to get a larger view

Connect a laptop to a TV or monitor
Use HDMI for a wired connection
Connect the laptop’s HDMI output to an HDMI input on the TV or monitor, then select the corresponding input on the display. If the laptop lacks an HDMI port, a USB-C-to-HDMI adapter may work only when that particular USB-C port supports video output. Check the laptop’s port specifications and the display’s available inputs before buying a cable or adapter. HP’s laptop-to-TV guide covers wired and wireless connection approaches.

On Windows, press Windows key + P to choose a display mode. Duplicate shows the same image on both screens. Extend makes the external display additional desktop space. Second screen only uses the external display rather than the laptop panel. Available labels and options can vary by Windows version and device. Microsoft’s instructions for mirroring and projecting to a display explain the Windows display controls.

Connect wirelessly with Miracast
Wireless display can remove the video cable, but it still sends the image to a compatible TV or other display—it does not project onto a wall. For Windows 11, Microsoft’s documented steps are to turn on a Miracast-compatible TV or external display, press Windows key + K, and select the display from the available devices. Compatibility depends on the specific laptop and destination display. Microsoft Support provides the current Windows instructions.
When a wireless display adapter is needed
A wireless display adapter plugs into the TV or monitor, not the wall. Microsoft says its adapter works best when the HDTV or monitor has an HDMI port and a USB charging port. The laptop must also support a compatible wireless-display method; an adapter cannot make an incompatible laptop transmit wirelessly. Microsoft’s Wireless Display Adapter guidance lists the display-side connection requirements.

Check compatibility before choosing accessories
- For a wired setup: confirm the laptop’s video-output port and the TV or monitor’s input. For USB-C, verify video output support rather than assuming every USB-C port can send a display signal.
- For a wireless setup: confirm that both the laptop and the TV, monitor, or receiver support the same wireless-display method. A Miracast adapter only helps with a compatible laptop.
- For an image on the wall: plan on using a projector. A TV, monitor, HDMI cable, USB-C adapter, or wireless display adapter will show the image on a screen panel, not on the adjacent wall.
Device-specific compatibility is not established by general connection instructions. Check the documentation for your exact laptop and display, especially if you use macOS or an unusual port configuration.
