A 3D-printed carry case can make a Pixel Watch easier to pocket and use as a tiny, phone-like device, but the case does not make it a full smartphone replacement. Calls and texts depend on the watch model and its connection: an LTE Pixel Watch needs compatible mobile service, while a Wi-Fi model needs Wi-Fi and the paired phone nearby.
What the 3D-printed case changes—and what it does not
A case can change how you carry and handle a watch. In one Reddit discussion, a participant said they 3D-printed a case for a Pixel Watch 3 so they could carry it instead of a smartphone. They described it as large enough to handle easily but not bulky in a pocket. The report supports a limited idea: a watch in a carry case may serve as a compact way to handle calls and texts. It does not establish the case’s dimensions, material, printable file, or how well the setup works for other everyday tasks. A shell also cannot add cellular service, a keyboard, or capabilities the watch itself does not have.

It depends on the watch’s connectivity and service. Google documents calling and texting on Pixel Watch, but the requirements differ between LTE and Wi-Fi models. Google’s Pixel Watch calling and texting requirements explain the distinction.

Google also says the watch syncs texts with the phone and that the connected phone must be online for that behavior. Mobile service is required for the phone as well, and some features require a paid subscription. Check the requirements for your carrier and intended use before relying on the watch as your only device.
What the reported setup could—and could not—do
The Reddit participant said calls and texts worked, but reported that there was no keyboard and that reaching the crown or button required taking the case apart. Those details are specific to one person’s account, not confirmed characteristics of every case or Pixel Watch configuration. They point to practical questions to answer before printing a design:

- Can you reach the crown, button, and screen without removing the watch from the case?
- Is text entry comfortable enough for the messages you expect to send?
- Can you handle the watch securely while making calls or navigating menus?
- Does the case fit your pocket without making controls awkward to use?
The available account does not identify a printable file, material, or dimensions. The title’s exact build and the author’s real-world results are not independently established, so there is no verified design here to download or replicate.

Is a watch in a carry case a smartphone replacement?
Only for a narrow set of needs. The documented capabilities relevant here are calls and texts, and the community report describes a pocketable way to carry a Pixel Watch 3. Neither establishes that this setup covers the other tasks you may rely on a smartphone to perform. Decide based on the tasks you need, not on the “dumb phone” label.

- Consider it if: calls and texts are your main requirements, you can arrange the appropriate watch connectivity, and you are comfortable with the watch’s input and controls.

There is not enough evidence in the account to make a fair comparison with a particular dedicated minimalist phone. Whether this is a sensible alternative depends on your required tasks, service availability, text-entry needs, and how well the case works in practice.
