The Cambridge Audio Melomania A100 SE is an incremental refresh of the original A100, not a full redesign. Its main additions are Dolby Audio spatial sound, a blue finish and revised sound processing; much of the feature-rich foundation remains. Whether the SE is worth its launch price depends chiefly on how much you value spatial audio and the current price gap versus the original A100.

What’s new on the Melomania A100 SE?

Launch coverage describes the A100 SE as a revision of the original Melomania A100. The visible change is a blue finish, while the main functional addition is Dolby Audio spatial sound, accessed through the Melomania Connect app. Cambridge Audio has also reportedly revised the sound processing and tuning, with an emphasis on bass, vocal clarity and richer mids. T3 characterizes the overall change as subtle rather than a major redesign. T3’s launch coverage and What Hi-Fi?’s report describe Dolby mode as intended for movies, music and games.

The SE retains an extensive specification set: Class A/B amplification, 10mm neodymium drivers, Qualcomm Kalimba processing, Snapdragon Sound, aptX Lossless and LDAC codec support, adaptive hybrid active noise cancellation (ANC), transparency mode and a six-microphone array. These details are reported by What Hi-Fi?; Cambridge Audio’s official product page cited in coverage documents the original A100, not a definitive SE specification listing.

How does the A100 SE sound and work in practice?

TechRadar’s hands-on review describes an open, spacious presentation with detail, a controlled soundstage and generally balanced frequency response and tonality. Its reviewer found Dolby Audio made the sound feel more spacious. The same review notes that rhythmic expression can feel slightly lumpy and that the touch controls were less reliable than using the app. These are one reviewer’s listening impressions, not lab measurements or a guarantee of how every listener or device will perform. Read TechRadar’s review.

What carries over from the original A100?

The A100 SE retains core capabilities associated with its predecessor, including Bluetooth 5.4, LDAC, aptX Lossless, adaptive ANC, IPX5 resistance and a claimed maximum total battery life of up to 39 hours with the case. What Hi-Fi? specifies that the 39-hour maximum applies with ANC off. Actual listening time will depend on settings and use; treat the figure as a best-case manufacturer-reported maximum, not a typical-use guarantee.

Cambridge Audio’s official A100 product page lists Class A/B amplification, a 10mm neodymium driver, adaptive ANC, Bluetooth 5.4, LDAC, aptX Lossless and up to 39 hours of battery life for the predecessor. It also says that the A100 battery is not user-replaceable. That page is useful context, but it does not independently confirm every A100 SE detail.

How much does the Melomania A100 SE cost?

Launch reports list the A100 SE at $149 in the US, £129 in the UK and €149 in the EU. TechRadar also reports an Australian price of AU$249 and an October 2, 2026 release date. These are launch-period figures, not confirmation of current local prices or stock. The original A100 launched at £119 / €139 in 2025, according to What Hi-Fi? Current prices can differ by retailer, region and date, so compare live listings before buying.

Should you choose the A100 SE or the original A100?

The most useful comparison is the price you can actually pay today, not the launch prices alone. The SE makes more sense if you want to try Dolby Audio spatial sound, prefer its blue finish or value the revised tuning. If those changes do not matter to you and the original A100 is substantially cheaper, the predecessor may be the better-value choice because much of the core feature set carries over.

  • Consider the SE if spatial sound is a feature you expect to use for movies, music or games, and the price premium is acceptable to you.
  • Consider the original A100 if you mainly want ANC, codec support and long claimed battery life, and find it at a meaningfully lower current price.
  • Check your playback device before choosing based on LDAC or aptX Lossless; codec support and the listening experience depend on the source device and setup.
  • Weigh your control preferences: TechRadar’s reviewer found touch controls less dependable than app control.

What to check before buying

  • Confirm current price and availability in your country; reported launch prices are reference points only.
  • Decide whether you will use Dolby Audio spatial sound, rather than paying extra for a feature you may leave off.
  • Check the ANC-off condition attached to the up-to-39-hour maximum battery claim.
  • Confirm the exact SE specification and regional listing with Cambridge Audio or the retailer, since the official Cambridge page cited here documents the original A100 rather than a confirmed SE specification page.
