Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 launched on November 14, 2025. It is most appealing if you want fast multiplayer and round-based Zombies; reviews consulted are more critical of its campaign. Whether it is worth buying depends on which mode matters most to you—and whether always-online play and your platform’s edition limits work for you.
What do you get in Black Ops 7?
Activision lists Treyarch and Raven Software as the game’s developers. The package includes a campaign playable solo or cooperatively, multiplayer, and round-based Zombies. The official launch announcement says multiplayer had 18 maps at launch. An earlier pre-release overview described a planned split of 16 6v6 maps and two 20v20 maps; that was pre-release information, not a different launch total. Live content can change after launch.

What are the pros of Black Ops 7?
Multiplayer is a strong fit for fast, movement-focused matches
TechRadar praises the quick pace, map lineup, and wall-jumping mechanics. That is one reviewer’s assessment, not a guarantee that every player will enjoy the movement or competitive feel.

Zombies gives series fans a substantial mode
TechRadar calls the first Zombies map a hit, noting its large scale and challenging main quest. The review also finds Survival and Dead Ops Arcade 4 enjoyable. Round-based Zombies is one of the game’s core modes, according to Activision.
Progression carries across modes
Xbox Wire says actions in campaign, Endgame, multiplayer, and Zombies contribute to global XP. Weapon levels, camos, and Battle Pass progression are also available through co-op missions and Endgame runs. This is an official feature description, rather than a review of how rewarding the progression feels.

Activision offers campaign play solo or with a squad. That flexibility may suit players who want co-op, but it does not resolve the campaign-quality concerns raised by reviewers.

What are the cons of Black Ops 7?
The campaign is the clearest review concern
TechRadar criticizes the campaign as a weak, messy follow-up for players looking for a direct continuation of Black Ops 2. PC Gamer is also negative about its structure, spaces it considers reused-feeling, encounter design, boss fights, and visual tone. These are subjective reviewer judgments; players who prioritize spectacle or co-op may weigh them differently. TechRadar reports spending more than 30 hours reviewing the game, which describes that reviewer’s play time, not a typical completion time.
Every mode requires an internet connection
Activision says continuous internet access is required in all modes, including campaign, because the game uses texture streaming. That makes it a poor fit for offline solo play or unreliable connections.

Console online features may require a subscription
Activision says PlayStation Plus or Game Pass Essential is required for social features and all modes except solo Co-Op Campaign. Check the current terms for your region and platform before buying, since subscription requirements can change.

Can you play Black Ops 7 solo or split-screen?
You can play the campaign solo, but solo does not mean offline: Activision requires a continuous internet connection. Split-screen is supported on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but not on older console generations. If you are buying specifically for local multiplayer, verify the game mode and console setup you intend to use; Activision’s support page covers edition and feature compatibility.
Is Black Ops 7 worth it?
Consider it if multiplayer and Zombies are your main reasons to play, and you are comfortable with a game that stays online. Be more cautious if you are buying primarily for a traditional, story-led Black Ops campaign or need offline play.
