Call of Duty 3 now has an unofficial native Windows port called CoD3Recomp. Version 0.4.0 reports about 180 frames per second in the Forest level at 1080p when experimental performance settings are enabled and MSAA is disabled. That is a project benchmark, not a guaranteed result for every PC: the release notes do not identify the test computer, and the game data is not included with the port.
What CoD3Recomp is—and what it is not
CoD3Recomp is a community-built Windows port of Treyarch’s 2006 Call of Duty 3, rebuilt from the Xbox 360 release. It is not an official Activision PC edition and it does not redistribute the commercial game’s original files.
The project adds controls that the Xbox 360 version could not offer in the same way, including resolutions up to 4K, adjustable field of view, windowed and borderless display modes, anti-aliasing choices, texture filtering, texture-quality settings and model-detail options. It can also render above the Xbox 360 version’s 60 FPS limit. Menus and video clips can still use their own frame-rate behavior, so a high gameplay counter does not mean every part of the game runs at 180 FPS.
How the 180 FPS result was measured
| Version and condition | Reported Forest result |
|---|---|
| CoD3Recomp 0.3.0 | About 91 FPS under the guide’s stated test conditions |
| CoD3Recomp 0.4.0 before the experimental boost | Roughly 95–108 FPS under the same general test |
| CoD3Recomp 0.4.0 with experimental options enabled | About 180 FPS at 1080p, with MSAA disabled and Watch memory writes enabled |
The headline figure comes from the project’s 2026 v0.4.0 release notes. They state: “With Watch memory writes (experimental) also on, the forest at 1080p without MSAA runs at about 180 frames a second.” The release notes describe the experimental setting as off by default while it undergoes more play testing.

These are measurements published by the project, not a standardized independent benchmark. No CPU, GPU, memory configuration or operating-system build is disclosed for the 180 FPS run. Treat 180 FPS as an indication of what the port can achieve in that scene under those settings, not as a hardware requirement or a promise that every level will run at the same speed.
How to run the Call of Duty 3 PC port
1. Own a compatible Xbox 360 copy
The installation guide requires your own Call of Duty 3 Xbox 360 game data. The current installer is prepared for the USA and Europe release, so a disc or dump from another regional edition may not match what the installer expects. CoD3Recomp does not supply the original executable, textures, audio or other commercial assets.

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
2. Obtain the project’s installer and follow its release-specific instructions
Use the installer and instructions published for the CoD3Recomp release you are using. Keep the extracted game data separate from the installer until the guide asks for its location, and read any version notes before replacing an older build. Because this is unofficial software, file names and setup steps can change between releases.

4. Treat experimental performance options as optional
Version 0.4.0’s experimental performance settings are not the normal baseline. If you test them, begin with a short, repeatable section such as the Forest level and watch for crashes, missing effects, timing problems or other visual regressions. Turn them off if stability is more important than peak frame rate.
CoD3Recomp versus running the Xbox 360 version in Xenia
Xenia is an Xbox 360 emulator; CoD3Recomp is a native Windows recompilation. They therefore have different setup paths and different failure modes. Xenia’s official settings documentation explains that game-specific settings and community patches can provide fixes, rendering improvements and unlocked frame rates. Its Call of Duty 3 patch entry, identified by title ID 415607E1, lists optional changes involving grass, depth of field, lens flares, aspect ratio and field of view.

| Consideration | CoD3Recomp | Xenia |
|---|---|---|
| How it runs the game | Native Windows port rebuilt from Xbox 360 code | Xbox 360 emulation |
| Frame-rate evidence | Project reports about 180 FPS in one Forest test at 1080p with experimental options | Results depend on emulator version, hardware, settings and patches; the CoD3Recomp figure does not apply |
| Graphics controls | Up to 4K, FOV, windowed/borderless modes, anti-aliasing, filtering, texture and model-detail controls | Uses emulator settings plus optional Call of Duty 3 patches |
| Source data | Your own compatible Xbox 360 copy is required | Your own legally obtained Xbox 360 game data is also required |
| Main trade-off | Potentially cleaner PC-oriented presentation and high frame rates, but unofficial compatibility can vary by port release | Closer to running the original console software, but emulation overhead and title-specific visual issues can remain |
Choose CoD3Recomp if you want native-style Windows controls and are willing to follow a port-specific installation process. Choose Xenia if preserving the original Xbox 360 execution path and using established emulator patches matters more. Neither route is evidence that the other will reach the same frame rate or have identical visual behavior.

What the 180 FPS claim means for your PC
- It does not establish a minimum or recommended CPU and GPU specification.
- Your result will change with resolution, anti-aliasing, level, background processes, drivers and the specific CoD3Recomp build.
- The Forest result is not a full-game average and should not be used to predict multiplayer, cutscenes or menus.
- Experimental settings can trade stability or rendering correctness for speed.
For a meaningful personal comparison, keep the resolution, MSAA state, level and experimental options fixed, then record several runs rather than relying on a single peak reading.
