There is no verified PC hardware requirement for playing Call of Duty 3 at 144Hz or 180Hz. The official Microsoft listing identifies Call of Duty 3 as a November 2006 release for Xbox platforms, not as a Windows PC game, and it provides no CPU, graphics-card, memory, or frame-rate specifications. You therefore cannot select a legitimate PC build for a 144Hz or 180Hz target from the available official information.

A similarly named Activision support page covers Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, a different game. Its PC requirements must not be applied to Call of Duty 3. Confirm the exact title and platform before buying hardware or a high-refresh monitor.

What the official Call of Duty 3 listing actually establishes

The Microsoft Xbox product page for Call of Duty 3 lists Treyarch as the developer and Activision as the publisher. It shows a release date of 11/10/2006 and describes Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S as supported play platforms. You can verify those details on the official Xbox listing for Call of Duty 3.

That page does not present a Windows edition, a PC executable, or system requirements. In particular, it gives no supported Windows version, processor model, graphics processor, RAM amount, storage requirement, driver version, or tested frame-rate target. A hardware recommendation would therefore be speculation rather than a title-specific requirement.

The absence of PC specifications is not the same as evidence that any modern computer will run the game at a chosen refresh rate. It means the official listing used here does not establish a supported PC path on which such a calculation could be based.

Why 144Hz and 180Hz cannot be promised for this title

A monitor’s refresh-rate label describes how often its panel can refresh. A 144Hz or 180Hz display does not, by itself, prove that a game can render 144 or 180 frames per second, or that the game and platform can output those rates. A valid performance recommendation would need an identified PC version, an official or reproducible performance target, and hardware requirements measured for that version.

No such Call of Duty 3 PC performance figures are established by the official listing. The available evidence does not substantiate native 144Hz play, native 180Hz play, or any particular frame-per-second target for this game. Consequently, there is no defensible answer to “What graphics card do I need for Call of Duty 3 at 180 FPS?” and no responsible CPU, GPU, or RAM tier to publish as a requirement.

  • New point streak system that rewards players both for landing kills and completing objectives
  • Weapons proficiency system that allows you to customize your favorite weapons, making them more effiecent in any map or mode
  • Online/offline 2 player co op special ops survival mode that earns you experience through 16 frantic objective based missions
  • New play modes, including: Kill confirmed mode, team defender mode and user generated match modes
  • Integration with 'call of duty: Elite,' an online multiplayer oriented service launched simultaneously with call of duty: Modern warfare 3

This also rules out a meaningful claim that a particular graphics card is “enough” for 144Hz. Even if a computer can drive a high-refresh desktop, that would not demonstrate support for this specific game, edition, or platform.

Do not confuse Call of Duty 3 with Modern Warfare III

The title most often confused with Call of Duty 3 is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. Activision has a page titled PC System Requirements for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. That page is a PC-requirements document for Modern Warfare III, not for the 2006 Call of Duty 3 release.

Shared words such as “Call of Duty” do not make the games interchangeable. Copying Modern Warfare III specifications into a Call of Duty 3 build guide would give readers requirements for the wrong game.

Identify the exact game before checking hardware

  1. Read the complete title. Look for the numeral “3” versus the words “Modern Warfare III,” and check the publisher’s store or your library entry rather than relying on an abbreviated search phrase.
  2. Confirm the platform. Determine whether you own an Xbox release, a Windows PC release of another Call of Duty game, or a console version being displayed through a monitor. The platform determines which requirements are relevant.
  3. Open the matching official product page. Check that the page title, game artwork, publisher, and edition match your copy. Do not use a requirements page whose title names a different installment.
  4. Check for an actual PC edition. A PC guide should identify a Windows release and list operating-system, processor, graphics, memory, storage, and driver requirements. If those fields are absent, do not infer them from another game.
  5. Only then set a refresh-rate target. Confirm that the identified edition documents or demonstrably supports the desired output mode before choosing components around 144Hz or 180Hz.

If you mean the 2006 Call of Duty 3 release

The official listing reviewed describes Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S as supported platforms. It does not list a Windows version or PC system requirements. The supported route established by that page is therefore an Xbox platform, not a documented PC build.

The same listing does not state whether the game renders at 144Hz or 180Hz, nor does it promise those output modes when an Xbox is connected to a high-refresh monitor. A monitor may advertise those frequencies, but the listing provides no title-specific confirmation that Call of Duty 3 uses them. Treat any claim of a guaranteed 144Hz or 180Hz mode as unverified unless documentation for the exact platform and edition says otherwise.

If you intended a different Call of Duty game on PC

Start over with that game’s exact name. Each installment can have different engine versions, operating-system support, graphics APIs, anti-cheat components, storage needs, and performance targets. The Modern Warfare III page linked above can answer questions about Modern Warfare III only; it cannot supply requirements for Call of Duty 3.

Then compare your computer against each category instead of treating one component—usually the GPU—as a complete answer. A 144Hz or 180Hz target is meaningful only when the game’s documented requirements or reliable measurements are tied to a defined resolution and quality setting. None of those PC-specific conditions is supplied for Call of Duty 3 by the official listing identified here.

What a high-refresh target would require in principle

Refresh rate and frame rate are related but different measurements. Refresh rate is a display capability; frame rate is how quickly the game produces images. To use a 144Hz or 180Hz mode, the display, connection, operating system, game, and rendering hardware must all agree on a supported mode. A game that outputs fewer frames cannot be made into a 144- or 180-frame game merely by attaching a faster monitor.

Performance also depends on the chosen resolution, image-quality settings, scene complexity, frame-time consistency, and software configuration. That is why a responsible PC recommendation names the exact game build and test conditions rather than assigning a generic “144Hz GPU.” For Call of Duty 3, the identified official information does not provide the first requirement—the documented PC build—so the rest of the calculation cannot be completed honestly.

Common mistakes and the correct response

Mistake Why it fails Correct response
Using Modern Warfare III requirements for Call of Duty 3 The Activision page names a different game. Discard those figures and verify the exact title first.
Assuming “Call of Duty 3” implies a Windows release The official listing identified here is for Xbox platforms and gives no PC requirements. Look for a matching official PC product page before discussing hardware.
Equating a 180Hz monitor with 180 FPS support Panel capability does not establish game output or platform support. Find title- and platform-specific evidence for the desired mode.
Choosing a GPU from the game’s age Release year alone does not document a PC port, API, or frame-rate target. Use documented requirements for the exact edition, not an age-based guess.
Buying parts before confirming the platform A console listing does not create a PC hardware requirement. Confirm whether you need a console setup or a separate PC game.

A practical decision checklist

  • Does the product page say Call of Duty 3, rather than Modern Warfare III or another installment?
  • Does it identify Windows PC support, or does it identify Xbox platforms?
  • Are CPU, GPU, RAM, storage, and operating-system requirements actually published for that edition?
  • Is the requested 144Hz or 180Hz mode documented for the same platform and game version?
  • Are any performance numbers tied to a resolution, quality preset, and test condition?
  • Have you avoided treating a high-refresh monitor specification as proof of game support?

For the Call of Duty 3 listing identified here, the answers are: Xbox platforms are identified; PC requirements are not stated; and 144Hz/180Hz support is not established. That is enough to stop a speculative PC purchase, but not enough to produce a hardware parts list.
