Persona is the new personal AI assistant startup launched by Zach Yadegari, the 19-year-old co-founder of Cal AI. TechCrunch reported on October 8, 2026, that Persona raised $10 million in a round led by Vine Ventures. The company’s current offering is a free beta through iMessage; a $179 wearable band is planned, but its reported December 2026 availability is an expectation, not confirmation that it has shipped.
What is Persona?
Persona is Yadegari’s attempt to put everyday digital tasks behind a personal AI assistant. He told TechCrunch that the assistant is intended to handle tasks such as ordering food or rides, taking notes, booking travel, and answering questions and emails. Those are described capabilities and ambitions; the report does not establish that every task is available or reliable in the current beta.
Yadegari’s broader vision is that phone utilities such as shopping, Uber, DoorDash, and email could “collapse into a single super app powered by an AI assistant.” That is his prediction about where the product category may go, not a description of a finished Persona super app.
Who invested in Persona?
TechCrunch reported a $10 million raise led by Vine Ventures, with Z Fellows founder Cory Levy and Collective Global participating. These funding details were reported by TechCrunch and are not independently verified here.
#1 Best Overall
Persona is not Yadegari’s first startup. MyFitnessPal acquired Cal AI in March 2026 for an undisclosed amount. MyFitnessPal told TechCrunch that Cal AI had generated more than $30 million in annual revenue in under two years; that figure is the company’s statement to the publication, not audited financial reporting cited by TechCrunch. Yadegari left MyFitnessPal in June and began working on Persona. TechCrunch said Persona had another co-founder whose identity had not been announced at the time of publication.
What can people use now, and what is still planned?
iMessage beta
Persona’s free beta is available through iMessage, according to TechCrunch. Yadegari told the publication it had a few thousand beta users. That is his reported estimate, rather than an independently audited user count. A companion app is also in development.

Wearable band
Persona is developing a wearable band with a reported planned price of $179. TechCrunch said it was expected in December 2026; that is a reported target, not verified availability or a confirmed shipping date. Yadegari also reported five figures in preorder revenue, but the article does not independently verify that amount.

The assistant model runs in Persona’s cloud, not on the band, so user data is sent to the cloud. The product plan therefore combines a user-triggered wearable with cloud-based processing, rather than keeping the assistant’s operation entirely on the device.

What does Persona say about privacy, payments, and ads?
Data handling and activation
Persona says the band will not always listen, that data sent to its cloud will be encrypted in transit and at rest, and that users will be able to delete their data. These are company claims reported by TechCrunch, not findings from an independent security or privacy assessment. The cloud-based design also means the assistant’s processing depends on data leaving the wearable.
Purchases and safety
Yadegari told TechCrunch that Persona is developing safeguards against phishing and prompt-injection attempts. He said the agent cannot see a user’s credit-card details and that purchases will require user approval, with external payment providers such as Stripe Link handling payment. These describe the team’s planned design; the report does not test the safeguards or establish a partnership with Stripe.
Rank #4
Sponsored shopping results
Yadegari said Persona plans to show sponsored results during shopping research while keeping the assistant unaware of which products are sponsored, with the goal of preserving unbiased recommendations. That is a company claim about a planned advertising model. TechCrunch did not independently assess how sponsored placements will be identified to users or governed, so readers should distinguish the stated goal from a verified recommendation policy.

What remains uncertain
Persona is at an early stage: the reported product roadmap includes both an iMessage beta and a band that was still expected to arrive in December 2026. The TechCrunch report provides company and founder statements about users, preorders, privacy, safeguards, and advertising, but it does not independently verify those claims. It also offers only limited comparisons with other assistant concepts and wearable devices, not a full feature-by-feature evaluation. No retailer listing or confirmed Amazon availability for the band was established.
