You may be able to buy Bitcoin (BTC) with a credit card in Germany, but don’t assume a particular exchange accepts your card or that its ordinary trading fee is the full cost. Confirm the provider accepts your German-issued card for a direct BTC purchase, check the price and card-specific charges at checkout, and ask your card issuer how it will classify the transaction. The available Germany-specific comparison does not confirm current card acceptance or all-in card fees for the providers it covers.
How to check whether a credit-card BTC purchase is available
- Check the provider’s current payment methods. Look for explicit confirmation that it accepts a German-issued credit card for a direct Bitcoin purchase. Confirm again at checkout; a payment method listed for another service or country may not apply to your transaction.
- Compare the final quote. Review the BTC amount you will receive, the quoted euro price or spread, and any separately disclosed card charge before authorizing payment. Do not treat a published maker or taker fee as the all-in cost of a card-funded purchase.
- Check your card issuer’s terms. Ask whether the issuer permits the payment and whether it could incur a currency-conversion fee or be handled under a different transaction category. Neither the provider’s acceptance nor the issuer’s treatment is settled by EU surcharging rules.
- Review limits and what happens next. Confirm any identity checks, purchase limits, processing time, and conditions for withdrawing BTC or euros in the provider’s current documentation.
- Verify the provider and service. Check the provider’s authorization status for the specific service in official registers. Keep the order confirmation and account records.
How card costs compare with published exchange fees
Finanztip’s 2026 comparison gives fees for some Germany-accessible services, but describes bank-transfer funding rather than confirming credit-card payments. These figures are context for trading costs, not verified card-purchase totals.
| Provider | Published comparison details | What this establishes about cards |
|---|---|---|
| Bison | Finanztip reports a 1.25% spread on each Bitcoin purchase or sale. | Card acceptance and card-specific costs are not confirmed. |
| Bitvavo | Finanztip reports a 0.25% taker fee or 0.15% maker fee, depending on order type. | Card acceptance and card-specific costs are not confirmed. |
| Finst | Finanztip reports a 0.15% charge per trade. | Card acceptance and card-specific costs are not confirmed. |
Finanztip describes euro deposits and withdrawals by bank transfer for Bison and Bitvavo. It says Bitvavo became available to German customers in September 2025 and that German customers could trade at Finst from July 2025. These are comparison details, not endorsements or confirmation of current payment methods. Check current provider information before relying on availability or fees. What EU card-fee rules do—and do not—mean
The European Commission’s Your Europe guidance says: “When you pay for something in the EU using your credit or debit card, traders and banks cannot charge you an extra fee – also known as ‘surcharging’ – just for using a particular card.” The page identifies exceptions for three-party card schemes such as American Express and Diners Club, and for business or corporate cards billed to an employer. It also notes that a card provider may charge currency-conversion fees and must disclose the amount before purchase. European Commission guidance on payment cards.

That rule does not require a crypto platform to accept cards, establish the platform’s BTC price or spread, or determine whether an issuer will treat a crypto purchase as a cash advance. The same Commission page describes strong customer authentication for online payments over €30 using at least two authentication elements; because payment rules can change, check current guidance rather than relying on that threshold for a transaction.
Check authorization and understand the risks
BaFin identifies the EU Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR, Regulation (EU) 2023/1114) as the framework setting authorization requirements, exceptions, and application procedures for crypto-asset service providers. BaFin says an authorized provider may serve customers across the EU after making a passporting notification. This describes the regulatory framework; it does not establish that a particular company is authorized for every service it offers. Check the relevant official register and the exact service. Keep purchase records for German tax documentation
The German Federal Ministry of Finance’s circular of 6 March 2025 discusses records for crypto-asset transactions, including acquisition time, amount, acquisition cost, and incidental expenses. It also says a relevant credit-card statement is generally sufficient documentation for purchases or exchanges of goods and services made using crypto-assets. That statement concerns recordkeeping; it does not determine the tax treatment of buying or later selling BTC. Federal Ministry of Finance circular on crypto-asset tax questions.
