The Fisher & Paykel RF442BLGW6 is a discontinued bottom-freezer refrigerator with a listed total capacity of 442 L. CHOICE tested it in 2017, but its detailed scores are member-only on the available review page, so the public record is not enough to recommend it on performance. If you are considering one, confirm the exact suffix, condition, warranty and local service support before paying.
What the RF442BLGW6 review establishes
CHOICE classifies the RF442BLGW6 as a bottom-freezer refrigerator in its medium 381–450 L class. Its listing gives 442 L total volume, split between a 307 L refrigerator compartment and a 135 L freezer compartment. These are the listed figures for the GW6 suffix; similar RF442 model numbers should not be assumed to share them. CHOICE’s RF442BLGW6 listing identifies the product as discontinued and gives 2017 as its test year.
Capacity, dimensions, and energy listing
| Specification | CHOICE listing for RF442BLGW6 |
|---|---|
| Total volume | 442 L |
| Refrigerator volume | 307 L |
| Freezer volume | 135 L |
| Appliance dimensions | 172 cm high × 68 cm wide × 70 cm deep |
| Recommended installation space | 177 cm high × 72 cm wide × 73 cm deep |
| Energy rating and claimed use | Three stars; 428 kWh/year |
| Warranty listed | Two years |
| Country of origin | Thailand |
The installation envelope is larger than the appliance dimensions. Check the installation guide for the exact GW6 and measure the space, including any required ventilation clearance, before arranging delivery or fitting. CHOICE’s annual energy figure is a claimed consumption value, not a running-cost estimate; calculating cost requires a current local electricity tariff and assumptions about actual use.

How much can you learn from its test?
The test year is 2017, but the numerical expert rating and detailed results are member-only on the available CHOICE page. Those restricted results include food-freshness performance, temperature stability, evenness and range, response to outside temperature, default-setting performance, heat-load processing, noise, reliability, satisfaction and the listed ten-year running cost. Without those figures, the public listing supports a specification summary, not a performance verdict.
#1 Best Overall
- SpillGuard Glass Shelves for Easy Cleanup This refrigerator features SpillGuard glass shelves that help contain leaks and spills, so messes stay on the shelf and don’t drip down onto lower shelves. The transparent design also brightens the interior and makes it easier to find what you need quickly.
- FreshFlow Produce Preserver & Food Freshness The FreshFlow produce preserver helps extend the life of fruits and vegetables by absorbing excess ethylene gas — one of the main causes of produce spoilage. This helps keep your fresh foods tasting better for up to about 4 days longer depending on how often the door is opened.
- Smart Temperature & Energy Efficiency This Whirlpool bottom-freezer fridge is ENERGY STAR qualified, meaning it’s designed to exceed federal efficiency standards — helping save money on your utility bills and use less energy overall. It also uses an Adaptive Defrost system to run defrost cycles only when needed, which reduces energy use and avoids unnecessary temperature swings.
- Accu-Chill Temperature Management & Lighting The Accu-Chill temperature management system helps keep fresh food at consistent, optimal temperatures by sensing when more cooling is needed and adjusting the compressor accordingly. Bright LED interior lighting makes it easy to see and organize all your groceries with better visibility throughout the refrigerator compartments.
- Bottom-Freezer Layout & Everyday Convenience The bottom-freezer design places the refrigerated section at eye level for easier access to fresh foods, while the freezer drawer below provides organized storage for frozen goods. Standard features include a factory-installed ice maker in the freezer and adjustable shelving configurations that let you customize storage as your needs change.
The page identifies Denis Gallagher as a senior project officer for digital home products who also works on laundry and fridge lab test projects. That staff biography is not an appliance-specific quote or endorsement, and it does not establish a result for this refrigerator.
Do not confuse it with another RF442 variant
A manufacturer quick reference guide available for New Zealand covers the RF442BLPX6, not the RF442BLGW6. It lists 413 L total volume, 294 L refrigerator volume, 119 L freezer volume, dimensions of 1720 × 680 × 695 mm, and 562 kWh/year. Those details belong to the BLPX6 and must not be used as specifications for the GW6. The close model numbers are a reason to check the full model-plate suffix and the exact documentation for the appliance being sold. Fisher & Paykel’s RF442BLPX6 quick reference guide

What to check before buying a discontinued unit
CHOICE marks the RF442BLGW6 discontinued. A retailer result names the model and describes a two-year manufacturer warranty, but it does not establish current stock, price, item condition, seller identity or what warranty coverage applies today. Treat an individual listing as unverified until the seller confirms the details in writing.
