Buy on Google for Search and Shopping is no longer available. Google discontinued the checkout program beginning September 26, 2023; merchant and customer support ended later, and the temporary window for looking up historical orders has also closed.
What happened to Buy on Google?
Buy on Google let shoppers purchase products through a checkout flow associated with Google Search and Shopping. Google’s Shopping Help page says the program was discontinued in September 2023. Its developer notice gives the service end date: Buy on Google for Search and Shopping stopped being available starting September 26, 2023.
Google described the transition as sending shoppers from a Google product listing to a checkout flow on the merchant’s own site. That was the announced direction for the transition, not evidence that the old Buy on Google checkout remains available.

When did the service, support, and order access end?
The shutdown happened in stages, so the service end date is not the same as the support or API deadlines.

What should customers do about an old order?
For questions about a historical Buy on Google purchase, Google directs customers to contact the merchant that fulfilled the order. Google’s former program support ended on November 25, 2023, so it is no longer the active support channel for these purchases.

What should merchants know about historical orders?
Merchants had a limited post-shutdown period to retrieve old order data through the orders.get and orders.list methods. Google’s stated exception ended October 30, 2024. Current Google Shopping or Merchant API documentation should not be mistaken for continued access to the retired Buy on Google APIs.

Is Google’s newer shopping checkout the same program?
No. Google’s May 20, 2026 announcement describes a later commerce direction involving UCP-powered features and a universal cart across retailers and Google services such as Search and Gemini. It says checkout may use Google Pay or transfer the shopper to a merchant site. This is a separate, newer set of features—not a revival of Buy on Google—and the announcement does not establish availability for every shopper, merchant, or market.

Google’s announcement is available at Google’s May 20, 2026 shopping update. Earlier, in 2020, Google described Buy on Google as an on-Google purchase option and named Shopify and PayPal among early integrations for inventory and order management and payment processing. That announcement is historical context; it does not confirm current integrations. See Google’s 2020 Buy on Google announcement.
