An AI support agent stops treating every conversation as a new case when it stores useful interactions as retrievable memories, looks up the relevant ones when a new message arrives, and passes that history into the next response. ResolveIQ is a project built around this idea: a customer-support memory agent meant to make earlier customer interactions available when a similar issue comes back. This article explains how that kind of memory works, how Hindsight’s documented memory operations map onto a support workflow, which deployment choices matter, and what still has to be verified before customer histories are used in production.

The full write-up of the ResolveIQ project could not be opened in full for this review, so the description of the project here relies on its indexed summary. The workflow and operations are taken from Hindsight’s public documentation. Where the project’s exact implementation is unknown, this article says so.

Which ResolveIQ this covers

The name ResolveIQ is used by more than one product. A separate support-ticket product uses the same name and grounds its answers in live database rows and reviewed query templates. That product has nothing to do with the memory-agent project discussed here, and its features, pricing, and security claims should not be attributed to it.

Why a support agent without memory repeats itself

A language model answering a support message has only what is in its context window. If the customer reported the same router reboot loop last month, a stateless agent has no way to know that unless someone pastes the old ticket into the conversation. The result is familiar: the customer explains the problem again, the agent suggests the first-line fix that already failed, and the case escalates later than it should.

Persistent memory addresses this by moving history out of the conversation and into a store that can be queried. The design questions are then practical ones: what gets saved, how it is tied to the right customer or case, how a new issue finds the relevant past entries, and how the agent decides how much weight to give them.

The three memory operations in Hindsight

Hindsight’s public documentation describes agent memory as three operations. The table below gives each operation’s documented meaning and, as an architectural framing rather than a verified detail of the ResolveIQ code, the role it would play in a support conversation.

Operation Hindsight’s documented meaning Role in a support workflow (framing)
Retain Stores information Saves a case summary, the troubleshooting steps already tried, and the outcome
Recall Retrieves relevant memories Pulls earlier cases from the same customer when a similar error appears
Reflect Reasons over the retrieved memories Decides whether a past fix still applies given the current product version and policy

The separation matters. Recall alone returns text that looks similar to the new message. Reflection is the step where the agent has to ask whether an old resolution is still valid, which is where most of the risk sits.

How a recurring-issue workflow would run

The following sequence is a conceptual workflow built on the three operations. Each step should be verified against the project’s code before it is treated as how ResolveIQ behaves.

  1. Capture the useful part of the interaction. At the end of a case, store a short structured summary: the symptom, the environment (product, version, plan), the steps tried, and whether they worked. Full transcripts add noise and privacy exposure.
  2. Attach the memory to the right scope. Each entry should be bound to a customer or account identifier, and ideally to a case identifier, so that a recall for one customer cannot return another customer’s history.
  3. Recall on arrival of a new message. When a new message comes in, query the store scoped to that customer and rank candidates by similarity to the current symptom.
  4. Reflect before using. Compare each recalled case with the current product version and the current support policy. A fix that worked on an older release should be flagged, not repeated.
  5. Retain the outcome. Record whether the suggested fix resolved the issue, so the next recall reflects what actually happened rather than what was proposed.

Deployment options: managed or self-hosted

Hindsight’s public material covers two deployment paths: a managed cloud service, Hindsight Cloud, and open-source software with client libraries that can be self-hosted. Hindsight Cloud is a concrete example of managed agent memory; it is named here as an option to evaluate, not as a tested or endorsed choice for ResolveIQ.

Comparison point Managed Hindsight Cloud Self-hosted Hindsight software
Who operates the memory service Hindsight, as a managed service The team deploying the software
Where customer memories are stored In the managed service In infrastructure the team controls
Integration effort Not stated for ResolveIQ Not stated for ResolveIQ
Operational responsibility Mostly with the provider Uptime, upgrades, backups, and access control sit with the team
Retention and deletion behavior for this project Not established; check current Hindsight documentation Not established; depends on the team’s own configuration
Access control and data isolation for this project Not established; check current Hindsight documentation Not established; depends on the team’s own configuration

The choice usually comes down to who must answer for customer data. A managed service reduces operational load but moves data custody to a third party whose controls must be reviewed. Self-hosting keeps custody in-house at the cost of running the service well.

Failure modes to design against

  • Stale fixes. A resolution that worked on an earlier release is recalled and applied to a product that has since changed.
  • Wrong-customer matches. Weak scoping returns another account’s history, which is both a support error and a privacy incident.
  • Memory overriding policy. A past exception, such as a goodwill credit, is treated as a standing rule.
  • Over-retention. Transcripts containing payment details or personal data are stored when only a symptom summary was needed.
  • Confident wrong recall. Similar-sounding symptoms with different causes are matched, and the agent presents the old fix with unearned certainty.

Controls to settle before customer histories are used

The available sources do not establish how ResolveIQ handles data isolation, consent, deletion, or retention. Those are implementation questions the team has to answer explicitly before live use. At minimum, the following should be documented:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • How memories are isolated per customer or tenant, and how that isolation is tested.
  • Whether customers are told that their interaction history is stored, and how they opt out.
  • How a deletion request removes a customer’s memories, including backups and derived summaries.
  • How long memories are kept, and what triggers their expiry.
  • Whether each recall is logged, so a support lead can see which past cases influenced a reply.

How to measure whether memory helps

Memory is a hypothesis about support quality, and it should be tested as one. A fair evaluation compares the same types of recurring issue with and without recall, over a comparable period. Useful measures include repeat contacts for the same symptom, the share of cases that escalate to a human, time to a working fix, and the number of replies in which a recalled fix was wrong for the current product. Reviewing those wrong-recall cases is often more informative than the averages, because they show where reflection is failing.

Vendor benchmarks for memory systems do not substitute for this. Results from one product, dataset, or workload do not transfer to a different support queue, so any claim about ResolveIQ’s effect on resolution, repeat contacts, or escalation needs its own measurement.

Practical starting point

For a team building this now, the sensible order is: define the scope and retention rules first, build capture and scoping second, add recall with logging third, and add reflection checks against product version and policy before the agent is allowed to present a recalled fix as the answer. Choose managed or self-hosted storage after those rules are written, because the rules determine which deployment can satisfy them.
