A useful review manifest ties an editorial decision to the exact short-video export it covers. Record the file’s identity, source materials, AI-assisted operations, human edits, review results, export details, and any provenance credential. Keep the manifest separate from the video’s C2PA Content Credential: the manifest says what people checked and approved; a credential can provide signed, tamper-evident provenance claims. Neither replaces the other.
What should be in a video review manifest?
Treat the manifest as an export-specific record, not a generic project note. Its fields below are practical workflow recommendations; C2PA defines a standard for signed provenance assertions, not a universal editorial review template.

Link the record to the precise file. A filename and version are useful identifiers; a hash, when available, can help distinguish files with similar names. Keep the original pre-upload export and the review record in a known location.
C2PA describes provenance assertions about an asset and its changes. Its implementation guidance calls for an actions assertion for creation or opening for editing and a suitable digital source type when content is created. See the C2PA implementation guidance and the C2PA 2.4 specification.

How do I document AI-generated parts of a short video?
Describe the contribution at the level it occurred. Separate generated media from AI-assisted editing or processing, and identify the affected asset or time range instead of labeling the whole video “AI-generated” when only one element was.
For example: “AI-generated background image used from 00:04–00:09; human editor selected the clip, added captions, and exported the final MP4.” This makes the origin of one element legible without obscuring the human work or implying that other footage was generated.

C2PA’s guidance gives a generated-video example using a c2pa.created action and the trainedAlgorithmicMedia digital source type. Preserve origin and transformation history when available; a single broad label cannot explain the full production process.
What does a Content Credential establish—and what does it not?
A C2PA manifest combines assertions, a claim, and a signature, with content binding used in validation. When inspecting an export, a reviewer can check whether a credential exists, whether its signature and binding validate, which actions or ingredients are recorded, and whether the inspected file is the intended export.

A valid credential means the signed claims validate under the applicable trust model. It does not independently establish that depicted events are true, that every production detail was disclosed, or that the video passed editorial review. Conversely, an absent credential alone does not establish manipulation. Record the validation outcome and its limits rather than treating presence or absence as a verdict about truth.
C2PA provenance is opt-in. Include identity and workflow details appropriate to the purpose and audience, and consider who will be able to see them. The C2PA explainer frames adoption alongside security, privacy, and human-rights considerations.

How can I check Content Credentials on an exported video?
Adobe’s Premiere documentation, last updated August 11, 2026, describes a product-specific workflow: configure Content Credentials preferences, enable credentials for export, and confirm that the Content Credentials section is active before exporting. Adobe lists MP4 and QuickTime MOV among supported formats and describes inspecting the exported file with Adobe’s Inspect tool. Adobe also documents scanning supported imported media for credentials. Interface details can change with software updates.

- Enable Content Credentials for the export and confirm the Content Credentials section is active before starting the export.
- After export, inspect the resulting file with Adobe’s Inspect tool and record whether the credential is present and its validation status and recorded claims as exposed by the tool.
- Match the inspected file to the manifest’s filename, version, and other identifiers, then retain both the export and review record.

Will TikTok, Instagram, or YouTube keep C2PA metadata after upload?
Do not assume that a credential will survive an upload, transcode, download, or other platform processing. Adobe explicitly says it does not guarantee that exported assets published on destination platforms will support Content Credentials. The sources do not establish one answer for every platform or upload path.
- Retain and inspect the pre-upload export.
- Record the destination and upload date.
- If the platform-processed or downloaded copy is part of the review scope, inspect that copy too and note the result.
C2PA implementation guidance describes a recovery approach for certain workflows: a watermark or perceptual fingerprint may help locate a lost manifest, with the reconnection documented. That is not a guarantee for every service or transcode.
