Roma midfielder Bryan Cristante has inflammation in his right knee and is expected to miss the Serie A trip to Como on 11 October. The latest report, published by La Gazzetta dello Sport on 3 October 2026, says he is also very likely to miss Roma’s following Champions League match against Real Madrid. That is the latest reported expectation, not a confirmed return timeline or final squad decision.
What is Bryan Cristante’s latest injury?
La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Cristante has inflammation in his right knee and that Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini confirmed he will be absent. The reviewed reporting does not include a detailed official Roma medical bulletin, so the diagnosis and outlook should be understood as reported information rather than a full club-issued assessment.
Which matches is Cristante expected to miss?
- Como away, 11 October: Cristante is expected to miss Roma’s Serie A match. Sky Sport Italia also reported his expected absence on 2 October.
- Real Madrid at home: La Gazzetta’s 3 October report says he is very likely to miss the subsequent Champions League fixture. Sky Sport had described the match as a major doubt the day before, while his condition was still being assessed. The newer report is more pessimistic, but does not establish a guaranteed recovery date or final selection decision.
Because this is a fast-moving injury update, availability could change as Roma assesses his condition and announces its squad.
Is this the same problem that ruled him out of Italy duty?
No. The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) announced on 20 September 2026 that Cristante could not join Italy after Roma’s match against Inter because of a physical problem, and called up Samuele Ricci in his place. Sky Sport later described that earlier issue as lombalgia, or lower-back pain. The current report concerns his right knee, indicating two separate issues rather than one continuous injury.

Who could replace Cristante in Roma’s midfield?
La Gazzetta identifies Marten De Roon as the most natural replacement, potentially alongside Manu Koné. Niccolò Pisilli is another reported option, depending on how Koné is used. These are projected possibilities from the report, not a confirmed lineup; Roma’s actual selection remains unknown until the team is announced.
