BrowserSkill connects compatible AI coding agents to Chrome or Microsoft Edge through a command-line tool, a local daemon and a browser extension. It can reuse the login state in a browser profile, so an agent can work with pages that would otherwise require you to sign in. That convenience comes with a consequential trade-off: the Agent Window has the selected profile’s access; it is not a separate account or security sandbox.
What BrowserSkill does
BrowserSkill is a bridge between a shell-capable AI agent and a Chromium-based browser. Its bsk CLI and daemon work with the BrowserSkill extension to let an agent read pages, interact with site controls and capture screenshots. Browser tasks run in a separate, visible Agent Window. You can also explicitly lend the agent an existing tab; it is returned when the task ends.
The project README names Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, OpenClaw, CodeBuddy, WorkBuddy, Pi and Hermes Agent among its supported integrations, and describes a dedicated DeepSeek Harness plugin. You choose which agent and model to use; BrowserSkill is the browser connection, not the AI provider.

Tasks it can handle
- Read documents or search internal sites where you are already signed in.
- Complete web workflows by interacting with page controls.
- Debug websites using evidence such as page changes, console messages, performance information, and network requests and responses.
- Upload or download files in local mode. Remote mode does not support file upload or download.
What you need to connect an agent
Local use requires a compatible AI agent, the BrowserSkill CLI and daemon, and the browser extension. The project documents CLI and daemon support for macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel), Linux (x64 and ARM64), and Windows x64. The extension supports Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge based on Chromium 125 or later. Other Chromium browsers might work, but are not guaranteed to be compatible.

Installation details and supported integrations can change. Follow the current instructions in the official BrowserSkill README rather than relying on an old setup guide.
How the logged-in-browser workflow works
- Choose a compatible agent and browser. Use an agent integration documented by BrowserSkill and Chrome or Edge based on Chromium 125 or later.
- Install and start the BrowserSkill components. Set up the
bskCLI and daemon, then install the extension using the current steps in the project README. - Start a browser task through the agent. BrowserSkill opens a visible Agent Window for the task, using the selected browser profile’s login state.
- Borrow an existing tab only when needed. If the task should use a tab you already have open, explicitly lend that tab to the agent. BrowserSkill returns it when the task ends.
- Review the agent’s access and output. Treat actions and page data as belonging to the signed-in profile, and consider where the selected agent or gateway sends and handles results.
What access does the agent inherit?
The key security distinction is that a visible window is not an isolated account. The official README states: “An Agent Window shares the selected profile’s login state; it is not a separate account or security sandbox.” — Tencent/BrowserSkill project documentation.

In practice, an agent may act with the permissions of sites signed in through that profile. Use an account and task scope you are comfortable granting to the chosen agent. Visibility helps you observe browser activity, but does not itself limit what the session is authorized to do.
Page data and debugging capture
The extension’s privacy policy says it can access page content and simulated user input for controlled pages. If you start debugging capture on a selected tab, the evidence can include request and response data, console messages, field values and page context. Known secrets are filtered, but the project warns that redaction cannot guarantee every sensitive value is removed.

The extension says it does not require a mandatory cloud service, collect product telemetry, or independently call an AI provider. Automation results go to the selected daemon or gateway; the agent or service receiving them may process or retain them under its own policies. Review those policies before using BrowserSkill with confidential pages or accounts.
Prompt injection is a concern to account for
A public GitHub issue raised concern that the project’s agent instructions did not explicitly explain how to treat untrusted page content. Its reporter warned that instructions embedded in a page could steer authenticated actions and proposed adding a warning. This is a reported security concern, not proof that an exploit occurred. The issue was displayed under milestone 0.3.1 with no due date when reviewed on October 7, 2026; its resolution was not established. See the project’s public issue tracker.

Local and remote mode: the practical difference
In local mode, the agent and browser bridge run through the local setup, which supports file upload and download. Remote mode pairs a server-side agent with your browser over authenticated WSS, but does not support file upload or download. Remote connectivity changes where the agent runs; it does not make the selected browser profile an account or security sandbox.
