Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Mason Graham sustained an MCL sprain and an ankle sprain in the team’s 27–24 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Oct. 1, 2026. The Browns said on Oct. 2 that his return will be evaluated week to week; they have not announced a return date. Same-day reporting suggested he may not be out long term, but that is not a confirmed team timetable.
What injuries did Mason Graham sustain?
An MRI performed at University Hospitals showed an MCL sprain and an ankle sprain, according to the Cleveland Browns’ Oct. 2, 2026 update. Graham left the Oct. 1 game against Pittsburgh with a knee injury; CBS Sports reported he was initially questionable to return and was later ruled out.
The Browns did not disclose the sprains’ grades or provide more detailed information about the affected structures.
When could Graham return?
The Browns’ official status is week to week. The team did not give a specific week or game for his return, so week-to-week evaluation should not be read as a confirmed short absence or a season-ending prognosis.

CBS Sports reported on Oct. 2 that Graham was not believed to have a long-term injury and relayed an expectation of a few weeks, attributing that estimate to NFL Network. That duration is secondary reporting, not a timetable announced by Cleveland.
What the Browns said, and when
On Oct. 2, before the MRI result was public, head coach Todd Monken said he did not have an update and did not know whether Graham was having an MRI. The Browns later announced the MRI findings and week-to-week status. These comments reflect the sequence of information that day, not conflicting assessments.

Graham’s production before the injury
In its Oct. 2 update, Cleveland said Graham had four sacks, 15 tackles, six tackles for loss and five quarterback hits through the first four weeks of the 2026 season. His four sacks led the Browns and were tied for third in the league at the time. These are figures reported on Oct. 2, not a current-season total.
Graham was selected by Cleveland fifth overall in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Monken praised the young defender’s early-season progress, saying, “He’s a tremendously talented young player that you could see early in the season, it all coming together,” and, “And he plays with unbelievable effort.”
