The Brother MFC-L8930CDW is a capable business color laser all-in-one for offices that print, copy, fax, and scan substantial volumes of documents. Its 80-page feeder and advertised duplex scanning speed make it especially appealing for document-heavy workflows. The trade-offs are its large footprint, ongoing toner expense, and weak fit for photo printing.
What the MFC-L8930CDW does well
Brother lists print and copy speeds of up to 33 pages per minute, plus an 80-page automatic document feeder (ADF) and two-sided scanning of up to 104 images per minute. Those are manufacturer maximums, not guaranteed results for every job: document complexity, settings, originals, and operating conditions affect actual throughput. They nevertheless point to the printer’s intended strength: moving office paperwork through print and scan tasks efficiently.
Independent testing by RTINGS describes sharp, fast document output, high page yields, duplex ADF scanning, and low maintenance. Its reviewers call the model “an exceptional choice for small offices.” That is a judgment about office-document use, not a claim that it suits every workspace or print requirement.

Where it falls short
It needs substantial space
RTINGS describes the MFC-L8930CDW as very large and cumbersome for home use. Measure the intended location, including space to open trays and reach the scanner and controls, before buying. This is more naturally suited to an office with a dedicated printer area than to a crowded desk or small home workspace.

It is not a photo printer
RTINGS finds it unsuitable for photo printing, citing limited color gamut, weak color accuracy, no borderless printing, and no glossy-paper support. For occasional color charts and business graphics, a color laser may still be adequate; for photo-heavy work, consider an inkjet supertank model such as the Epson EcoTank Pro ET-5850 and compare media support, scan workflow, speed, and total running costs.
Workflow, paper capacity, and connectivity
The control panel is a 7-inch color touchscreen. Standard paper capacity is a 250-sheet lower tray plus a 50-sheet multipurpose tray. Brother says optional trays can bring total capacity to 1,340 sheets. If frequent replenishment is the bottleneck, investigate the LT-350CL or LT-360CL tray options and confirm current compatibility and availability before ordering.

Connection options listed on Brother’s U.S. product page include dual-band 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet, USB 2.0, Wi-Fi Direct, Apple AirPrint, Mopria, and Brother Mobile Connect. Ethernet is useful where an office prefers a wired network connection; wireless and mobile printing provide alternatives for supported devices.
Toner and ongoing costs
Brother includes standard-yield toner rated at approximately 3,000 black pages and 1,800 pages per color cartridge. Its TN635XXL replacement cartridges are rated for up to 7,500 black pages and 6,500 pages per color cartridge. These are approximate yields under ISO/IEC 19798; actual results vary with coverage and other conditions. High-yield cartridges can reduce replacement frequency, but Brother has not published current cartridge prices, so a reliable cost-per-page figure cannot be calculated here.

The box also includes a DR635CL drum unit, BU635CL belt unit, and WT229CL waste toner box. Brother publishes approximate component lives and cautions that actual life varies with page coverage, job size, and media. Include these maintenance components as well as toner when estimating ownership costs.
Security and fleet features
Brother lists Secure Boot, firmware encryption, TLS/SSL, IP filtering, SNMPv3, Secure Print, Secure Function Lock, NFC card-reader support, and other enterprise-oriented features. These are listed capabilities, not a security certification or a guarantee that a particular deployment is secure. An administrator should check the current documentation and configure network, authentication, and access settings to match the organization’s policies.

Price, warranty, and support
Brother’s U.S. product page listed the printer at $699.99 when accessed on October 4, 2026. That is a time-sensitive listing, not a stable price; check the current product page and retailer availability before making a purchase decision. Brother lists a one-year limited warranty, but terms can depend on purchase location and date, so verify the applicable warranty for the unit being considered.
For setup or troubleshooting, Brother’s model-specific support page provides drivers, firmware, manuals, FAQs, and operating-system resources. Check compatibility with the exact operating-system version before installation; Brother notes that software support for older operating systems is limited. Firmware and support availability can change.

How it compares with alternatives
The closest choice depends on what the office prints and scans, not on a single headline specification. RTINGS discusses the Canon Color imageCLASS MF665Cdw as a lower-priced color laser comparison and the Epson EcoTank Pro ET-5850 as an inkjet supertank option for photo-heavy work. Compare current prices, media support, document and scan throughput, and consumable costs for your actual workload before choosing.
RTINGS also notes configuration differences among Brother models: its comparison lists 512 MB memory and one USB port for the MFC-L8930CDW, versus 1 GB memory and two USB ports for the MFC-L8970CDW. It lists LT-350CL or LT-360CL optional tray support for the MFC-L8930CDW and only LT-350CL for the MFC-L8730CDW.
