The Brother MFC-J4355DW is a wireless color inkjet all-in-one for home and small-office use. It prints, copies, scans, and faxes, and its practical strengths are automatic two-sided printing, mobile and Wi-Fi connectivity, and a compact 20-sheet document feeder. Brother’s specifications make it a plausible fit for everyday mixed document work, but they do not establish real-world print quality, speed, ink cost, or long-term reliability.
What the Brother MFC-J4355DW does
Brother describes the MFC-J4355DW as a color inkjet multifunction printer with print, copy, scan, and fax functions. It has a 1.8-inch color display, dual-band Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, and mobile printing through Brother Mobile Connect. Brother lists support for Windows, macOS, and Linux; check the current model support page for operating-system compatibility and downloads, since support for obsolete Windows and older macOS versions is limited.
The feature set is oriented toward regular home or small-office paperwork rather than a high-volume production workflow. A fax function may be useful where it is still required, while Wi-Fi Direct and mobile printing give users alternatives to printing only from a computer on a shared network.

These capacities suit everyday forms, correspondence, and shorter document batches. The 20-sheet ADF is the main constraint for scanning or copying larger stacks: you will need to reload it, and the listed feeder handles one side at a time. Print speed and volume: manufacturer ratings, not test results
Brother lists maximum simplex speeds of up to 20 pages per minute (ppm) in black and 19 ppm in color, first-page-out times of approximately 5.8 seconds black and 5.9 seconds color, and maximum resolution of 1,200 × 4,800 dpi. These are manufacturer specifications, not independently measured results; actual time depends on the document, settings, connection, and other conditions.
Brother recommends a monthly print volume of 200 to 2,000 pages and gives a maximum monthly duty-cycle rating of up to 30,000 pages. The recommended range is the more useful guide to intended regular workload. The maximum rating is not a promise of practical lifespan, nor does it show that printing near that level will be economical.

What ink the MFC-J4355DW uses
The printer uses Brother LC506 genuine ink cartridges. Brother lists the included starter black cartridge at 1,800 pages and each starter cyan, magenta, and yellow cartridge at 750 pages. Those are Brother’s stated yields, not guaranteed results for every owner; actual yield varies with print content and use. The available manufacturer information does not establish independently measured yields or current replacement-cartridge prices, so it is not enough to calculate a dependable cost per page.
Brother recommends genuine cartridges. Before buying replacements, confirm that the listing identifies LC506 cartridges for the MFC-J4355DW and check current availability and pricing; do not assume a particular retailer listing or cartridge bundle is in stock.

First-time ink setup uses extra ink
Brother’s setup instructions say the printer uses extra ink during the first cartridge installation to fill the ink delivery tubes, followed by an initial ink-system cleaning. Brother does not quantify that one-time use in the cited instructions. Consequently, the starter yields should not be read as a precise prediction of how many pages the first installation will produce in a particular household.
Setup, software, and support
- Unpack and connect the printer according to the included setup guide, then follow the LCD prompts.
- Install the four ink cartridges when prompted and let the printer complete its initial ink-system cleaning. The first installation uses extra ink once to fill the delivery tubes.
- Connect using the network option that fits your setup, such as dual-band Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi Direct. For phone printing, install Brother Mobile Connect.
- For computer printing and scanning, download the appropriate drivers and software from Brother’s model support page. Check the live page for current operating-system support and firmware; Brother advises keeping firmware updated for optimum performance.
Brother’s model materials also provide resources for network settings, troubleshooting, consumables, cleaning, and firmware. The US manuals and support page is the place to check current guides and help options. Menu labels and available software can vary with operating system and firmware version, so use the instructions for the exact model and device in front of you.

It may suit you if
- You need one device for printing, copying, scanning, and faxing.
- Your usual jobs fit a 150-sheet tray and involve short batches for the 20-sheet single-sided ADF.
- Automatic two-sided printing, wireless connectivity, and phone-based printing are useful in your home or small office.
- Your expected volume is within Brother’s recommended 200-to-2,000-page monthly range.
Look more closely at alternatives if
- You routinely scan large stacks or require automatic two-sided scanning; the listed ADF is single-sided and holds 20 sheets.
- You need independently verified speed, photo quality, or a measured cost per page. Brother’s published specifications do not answer those questions.
- You plan to print at a sustained high volume and need evidence about long-term reliability or ownership cost beyond the manufacturer’s ratings.
To compare it fairly with another printer, check the actual workload you expect, current genuine-ink prices and stated yields, measured print and scan performance, paper and ADF capacity, duplex requirements, connectivity, footprint, and warranty terms. The available manufacturer information supports feature comparisons, but not an evidence-based conclusion about comparative operating cost or print quality.
Warranty and physical fit
Brother’s US product page lists a two-year limited warranty; confirm the warranty and terms for your country before purchase. Brother lists the unit at 19.6 pounds and 16.5 × 13.5 × 7.3 inches. If shelf space or lifting weight is a deciding factor, verify those figures on the current product page and allow room for paper handling and access to connections.
