In the UK configuration documented by Brother, it adds wireless and mobile connectivity, automatic two-sided printing, a 20-sheet automatic document feeder and a 150-sheet paper tray. Its listed speed and ink yields are manufacturer estimates, not independent test results, so this review explains what the specifications mean—and what they cannot tell you about real-world performance or running costs.
Is the Brother MFC-J4340DW any good?
It looks well equipped on paper for a home office that needs several everyday functions in one machine. The ADF can help with multi-page copying or scanning, while automatic duplex printing and wireless/mobile connectivity add useful workflow options. Whether it is a good choice for you depends on your document volume, paper handling needs, local ink prices and the performance you expect.

Brother describes the MFC-J4340DW as a 4-in-1 colour inkjet printer: it prints, copies, scans and faxes. The UK listing also identifies wireless and mobile connectivity. Its 4.5 cm colour LCD provides a small on-device display for operation. These features are useful if you want one device to handle document tasks rather than buying separate machines.

How fast does it print?
For A4 one-sided printing, Brother UK lists speeds of up to 20 images per minute (ipm) in mono and 19 ipm in colour. For two-sided printing, the listed rates are 11 ipm mono and 10 ipm colour. “Up to” rates are standardized manufacturer figures, not a guarantee that every job will finish at that pace. Actual time can vary with the document, print settings and workflow. No independent speed measurements are established here.

Can it print double-sided and handle multiple pages?
Automatic two-sided printing
Yes. Brother lists automatic two-sided printing, with A4 duplex speeds of up to 11 ipm mono and 10 ipm colour. The duplex rates are lower than the one-sided rates in the manufacturer’s specifications.
ADF for multi-page documents
The UK listing specifies a 20-sheet automatic document feeder. An ADF lets you place a stack of originals for a multi-page scan, copy or fax workflow instead of positioning each page separately on the scanner glass. The 20-sheet capacity is the listed feeder capacity; it does not mean the printer can process an unlimited document without reloading.

Paper capacity and feed paths
The standard input tray holds 150 sheets, and the data sheet lists a separate manual feed for one sheet at a time. Supported paper sizes and weights differ by feed path: the standard tray, manual feed, ADF, scanner glass and automatic duplex path do not all support the same media. Check the documentation for your country and the specific paper type before planning a workflow around labels, heavier stock or non-standard sizes. What ink does the Brother MFC-J4340DW take?
In the UK/European model documentation cited here, the printer uses separate black, yellow, cyan and magenta cartridges. Brother lists the LC426 and higher-capacity LC426XL series as replacement supplies. Confirm cartridge compatibility on the official support page for your country before ordering: model suffixes and ink series can vary between markets. See Brother’s model supply specifications.

These are approximate Brother yields measured using ISO/IEC 24711, not guaranteed page counts. Your results depend on what you print and how much ink each page uses. Brother also says the first cartridge set uses ink to fill the delivery tubes, so the included cartridges yield less than the replacement-cartridge figures. Its model-specific estimate is approximately 75% of replacement LC426 black yield and 65% of replacement LC426 colour yield; these percentages are estimates, not assurances.
How much does it cost to run?
The cartridge yields give a useful starting point, but they are not enough to calculate a reliable cost per page without current local cartridge prices and a realistic print mix. Running costs vary with the price and availability of replacement ink, the proportion of colour pages, page coverage and how often you print. Check current LC426 or LC426XL prices in your country and compare them with your expected usage. Do not use the replacement yields as an estimate for the ink supplied in the box.
