The Brother HL-L2400DW is a print-only, black-and-white laser printer aimed at everyday documents. Its automatic duplexing, wireless options and 250-sheet tray suit routine home or small-office printing; it is not the right choice if you need color, scanning or copying. Brother’s published speed and capacity figures are specifications, not independent test results, and the detailed verdict from Stiftung Warentest is paywalled.
What the Brother HL-L2400DW does—and what it doesn’t
This is a single-function monochrome laser printer. It prints documents but does not scan or copy, and it cannot produce color output. That distinction matters more than any speed claim: households that need occasional scans or copies should consider an all-in-one instead of adding those tasks to a print-only workflow.
For text documents, forms and other ordinary black-and-white jobs, its feature set is straightforward: USB or Wi-Fi connection, mobile-printing support listed in regional materials, and automatic two-sided printing. Speed and print quality: what the specifications establish
Brother specifies printing at up to 30 pages per minute on A4 paper and 32 pages per minute on Letter. Automatic duplex printing is rated at up to 15 sides per minute, equivalent to 7.5 two-sided sheets per minute. Brother says actual speed varies with the document and may be slower over a wireless LAN. These are manufacturer figures, not measurements from an independent review. The specification family lists resolution up to 1200 × 1200 dpi and a first print in under 8.5 seconds from Ready mode under the stated conditions. Resolution and first-page figures do not establish how a printer performs on a particular document, and they are not substitutes for measured print-quality or speed results.
Stiftung Warentest’s database lists the HL-L2400DW and identifies an evaluation program, “Drucker 3/2023,” with categories for print, toner costs, handling, versatility and environmental properties. The detailed result is behind paid access, so a public overall grade, measured text or photo quality, test speed, toner-cost result, noise result or handling score cannot be reported here. Paper handling and automatic duplex limits
The standard input tray holds up to 250 sheets of 80 gsm plain paper, and the face-down output capacity is up to 150 sheets. The manual feed slot takes one sheet at a time, which is useful for feeding an individual envelope or heavier sheet without loading it into the main tray.
Automatic duplexing has a narrower media specification than the printer’s general media support. Brother lists A4 plain, thin or recycled paper from 60 to 105 g/m² for automatic two-sided printing. Support for a heavier stock or envelope through manual feed does not mean that stock is suitable for automatic duplexing. For ordinary two-sided documents, use media within the duplex specification. Connections, mobile printing and operating systems
The printer supports Hi-Speed USB 2.0, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, and Wi-Fi Direct. Brother’s regional product materials also list mobile-printing options. Stiftung Warentest’s German listing names AirPrint, Mopria and local app printing; feature availability can depend on region, device and software, so confirm that the method you plan to use is supported by your current phone, computer and network.
The cited UK product information lists ChromeOS, Linux, macOS and Windows support. Stiftung Warentest lists Windows 11, macOS and Unix/Linux and notes that drivers are available from the vendor. Brother’s FAQ index includes a Wi-Fi Direct troubleshooting topic involving Android Print Service Plugin on Android 12 or later. That is a specific compatibility issue to consult if it matches your setup, not evidence that every Android user will have a connection problem. Brother UK lists a 700-page inbox toner and separate toner and drum units. Its listed replacement cartridges are TN2510, with a declared yield of 1,200 pages, and TN2510XL, with a declared yield of 3,000 pages. These are manufacturer-stated yields, tied in Brother’s regional documentation to ISO/IEC 19752; actual yield varies with page coverage and use. Cartridge codes vary by market. Brother’s Nordic material uses TN2510 and TN2510XL, while a New Zealand listing surfaced TN2530XL. Do not assume a cartridge code applies worldwide: use the Brother supply finder for your country or check compatibility on the local cartridge listing before ordering.
To estimate ongoing expense, compare the local price and declared yield of the genuine cartridges available to you, account for your expected monthly pages and paper use, and include the separate drum when assessing long-term ownership. The accessible Stiftung Warentest page does not disclose its toner-cost result, and a current cost per page cannot be established without local prices and usage assumptions.
Size, display and regional details
The cited Brother specification family lists dimensions of 356 × 360 × 183 mm and 64 MB of memory. Its control panel uses a one-line, 16-character display. These figures describe the listed family specification; confirm the dimensions and product revision for your local model if desk clearance is tight.
