The Brother HL-L1230W is a single-function monochrome laser printer with wireless networking, USB 2.0 and manual two-sided printing. Brother rates it at up to 20 A4 pages per minute and lists support for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independently measured results; the available evidence does not establish real-world print quality, noise, setup performance, current price or availability.
What the Brother HL-L1230W offers
The HL-L1230W is designed for black-and-white printing rather than scanning, copying or faxing. Its feature set is focused: print from a connected computer or over Wi-Fi, choose from several page-layout options, and print on both sides by manually turning the paper.
| Specification | Brother’s stated figure or feature |
|---|---|
| Print speed | Up to 20 pages per minute for A4 monochrome, one-sided printing |
| First print out | Up to 10 seconds |
| Print resolution | Up to 2400 × 600 dpi |
| Memory | 64 MB |
| Connections | Wireless networking at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz; Hi-Speed USB 2.0 |
| Two-sided printing | Manual |
These specifications come from Brother’s HL-L1230W datasheet. The speed is specifically for one-sided A4 monochrome printing; it should not be read as a two-sided rate or a guarantee of the speed you will see with every document and connection.
Does the HL-L1230W print double-sided?
Yes, but duplexing is manual, not automatic. The printer does not automatically print both sides in a single pass. If automatic duplexing matters for frequent multi-page jobs, look for a model that explicitly lists automatic two-sided printing.

Paper and print options
In addition to manual two-sided printing, Brother documents several layout and output features: N-up printing can place up to 25 pages on one sheet; poster and booklet printing arrange pages for larger or folded output; ID printing and watermark printing are also listed. Toner Save mode is available as well. These are documented functions, not independent assessments of their output quality or convenience.

| Supply | European-region listing | Yield qualification |
|---|---|---|
| TN119 toner | Standard toner for HL-L1230W/HL-L1232W | Approximately 1,500 pages; Brother’s estimate is declared in accordance with ISO/IEC 19752 for A4/Letter single-sided pages |
| DR119 drum | Drum unit for HL-L1230W/HL-L1232W | Approximately 10,000 pages; Brother’s estimate is based on one page per job and A4/Letter single-sided pages |
The figures are manufacturer estimates, not guaranteed page counts. Actual yield depends on use. See Brother’s European-region HL-L1230W/HL-L1232W supplies guide for the listed parts and replacement guidance. Brother says the machine displays an error on its control panel or in Status Monitor when a supply needs replacing.
What comes in the box
Brother’s datasheet lists the device, inbox toner, drum, power supply cord, quick setup guide and warranty card as carton contents. The datasheet does not specify the inbox toner’s page yield, so do not assume it is a full TN119 cartridge.

Who should consider this printer?
The HL-L1230W is a reasonable candidate if you want a compact, single-function monochrome printer and value wireless connectivity, including 5 GHz support. It is less suitable if you need color, scanning or copying, or automatic duplex printing. Because no independently measured results or current market price are established here, compare local pricing and warranty terms and consult independent tests if real-world speed, print quality or noise will determine your choice.
