The British Photography Awards 2026 public vote is open for People’s Choice winners until 15 October 2026. Browse the competition’s 500 shortlisted photographs across 20 categories, choose a favourite in the shortlist gallery, and cast your vote there. Amateur Photographer reported the shortlist and voting details on 3 October 2026.

How to browse the shortlist and vote

  1. Open the Amateur Photographer report on the British Photography Awards 2026 shortlist, which directs readers to the shortlist gallery.
  2. Browse the shortlisted images and select a favourite in the gallery to vote for a People’s Choice winner.
  3. Submit your vote by 15 October 2026, the closing date reported by Amateur Photographer on 3 October 2026.

The report does not state who is eligible to vote, whether registration is required, or whether there is a limit on votes. Check the gallery for its current voting instructions.

What is on the 2026 shortlist?

The shortlist comprises 500 photographs across 20 categories. It spans subjects and approaches including Street, Documentary, Events, Fine Art, Self-Portrait, Sport, Weddings, Drone, Landscape and Land Animal, among others. That makes the public vote a choice across different kinds of photography, not a direct comparison of equivalent images.

Amateur Photographer reported that more than 40,000 photographers were registered in the BPA community; that figure is the publication’s report and is not identified as independently audited.

Examples from the shortlisted work

  • Shinjuku by Matthew Fleming, in Street.
  • Morning Rise by Emily Endean, in Landscape.
  • Matty by Neil Ferry, in Portrait.
  • Hunter vs Hunter by Alessandro Po, in Pets & Domesticated Animals.

These are examples, not a definitive ranking of the shortlist. The gallery offers the wider selection to explore.

How to choose a favourite

There is no single objective way to pick a winner across such varied subjects. If you are deciding between images in the same category, you might consider the moment captured, composition, use of light and colour, technical execution, and emotional or documentary impact. These are useful viewing criteria, not published BPA voting rules; the competition report does not prescribe how public voters should judge the photographs.

When will the category winners be announced?

Amateur Photographer says category winners will be revealed in November at an awards ceremony. It does not give an exact ceremony date. Its report says the ceremony is open to attendees and links to a ticket page, but does not establish ticket availability or other event details beyond that.

Awards Director Hugo Donnithorne-Tait said: “The standard of photography, the variety and creativity showcased on the shortlist made it a very special year and the judges had a tough time. We can’t wait for the awards gala and national showcase of photography in November, where we will be able to celebrate all the hard-working photographers, award their creativity and tell their stories.”
