BrighTO-Router is presented as a self-hosted Rust gateway that gives a team one API endpoint for routing requests to AI backends. It may simplify how clients reach multiple providers or local models, but its announced benchmarks measure gateway overhead—not model inference speed. The project’s current release, security details, and performance results need to be checked against its upstream documentation before deployment.
What BrighTO-Router is
In a September 27, 2026 announcement, author Nguyễn Anh Nguyên described BrighTO-Router as a free, open-source LLM gateway and router written in Rust. It is intended to sit between applications and AI backends, giving a team a common, self-hosted endpoint for AI traffic. The author’s stated rationale for Rust is that a gateway on the request path should add little latency and operational complexity; the claimed benefits of predictable memory use and fast asynchronous networking are design rationale, not a measured comparison with other gateways. Read the author’s announcement.
What features the project announces
The announcement lists the following capabilities. These are author-announced features, not independently verified functionality:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- OpenAI-compatible chat, completions, and embeddings APIs
- Routing for Anthropic Messages requests
- Connections to local or custom OpenAI-compatible endpoints
- Rerank adapters and ASR/transcription proxying
- Team API keys and token budgets
- A PostgreSQL ledger for usage metadata
- Round-robin and weighted model groups
- A one-Docker installation option
An independent directory guide also describes model groups and fallback routing. Its reviewer said they examined the README and license at commit 0713d8129a6fcd9699b03fa91d235bd422171671 on September 28, 2026, but did not run the installation or test live-provider paths. Read the directory guide.
#1 Best Overall
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
What you need to self-host it
The available guide identifies Docker or a Rust binary, PostgreSQL, and upstream provider credentials for configured routes. In practical terms, plan for a host to run the gateway, a database for its usage metadata, and valid credentials for any upstream services you configure. A local backend may have different requirements from a hosted provider.

- Dual-band Wi-Fi with 5 GHz speeds up to 867 Mbps and 2.4 GHz speeds up to 300 Mbps, delivering 1200 Mbps of total bandwidth¹. Dual-band routers do not support 6 GHz. Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- Covers up to 1,000 sq. ft. with four external antennas for stable wireless connections and optimal coverage.
- Supports IGMP Proxy/Snooping, Bridge and Tag VLAN to optimize IPTV streaming
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
- Advanced Security with WPA3 - The latest Wi-Fi security protocol, WPA3, brings new capabilities to improve cybersecurity in personal networks
The available sources do not specify minimum CPU, memory, storage, or uptime requirements. They also do not establish production readiness through a live deployment test. Choose infrastructure based on your expected request volume and operational needs, then validate it with your own workload rather than treating any particular server size as an official requirement.

Does BrighTO-Router make model inference faster?
No such conclusion is supported by the announced benchmark claim. The author says BrighTO-Router publishes deterministic mock-backend benchmarks intended to measure the router’s own overhead, not the time a model takes to generate a response. The announcement describes payloads up to 1M tokens, but that is the stated benchmark payload ceiling—not a latency result, throughput figure, or independently reproduced finding.

- NIGHTHAWK WIFI 6 ROUTER FOR YOUR WHOLE HOME: Delivers fast, reliable WiFi across every room of your apartment or small home for streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart home devices, all running at the same time without slowing each other down.
- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
The announcement provides no numerical latency results, hardware configuration, detailed test method, or comparison against another gateway. A useful performance comparison would need to disclose hardware, payload composition, concurrency, warm and cold behavior, backend behavior, and comparison targets. Until those details and results are available, treat claims about speed as unverified and do not infer that the router accelerates inference.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to verify before using it
- API and adapter fit: Confirm that the current version supports the exact API dialects, tasks, and backends your clients require.
- Routing behavior: Check how model groups, weights, round-robin selection, and fallback work in your intended configuration.
- Access and budgets: Find out how team keys and token budgets are enforced, and what happens when a budget is reached.
- Data handling: Review what usage metadata is stored in PostgreSQL, how long it is retained, and what requests or credentials may be logged. The available sources do not establish these details.
- Deployment and maintenance: Confirm the current release, license, supported database and deployment setup, security guidance, and upgrade process in the upstream repository and docs.
- Performance evidence: Look for the actual benchmark report and methodology, not just a payload ceiling or a general statement that results are repeatable.
The announcement links to the project repository and documentation, but those upstream pages were not accessible for verification in the sources available here. Confirm these details directly with the project before placing sensitive or production traffic through the gateway.
