The Brightin Star MF 50mm F2.0 Tri-Sight is a manual-focus full-frame prime with a ring that switches among three optical rendering modes, plus four included inserts for shaping out-of-focus highlights. It offers unusual hands-on control over bokeh, but the effect depends on the scene—and the lens has no autofocus or electronic contacts.
What the Tri-Sight’s bokeh controls do
A dedicated ring moves an optical group inside the lens, changing spherical-aberration correction and the way out-of-focus highlights render. Brightin Star describes three settings:
- Smooth: softens highlights and gives the image a softer overall look.
- Prime: provides the lens’s standard, more natural rendering.
- Foams: produces more defined-edged, bubble-like highlights.
These are changes to optical character, not a guarantee of attractive blur in every photograph. The effect is easiest to see when small, bright points of light sit out of focus behind the subject. Brightin Star recommends using f/2 for visible shaped or bubble bokeh.
How the included bokeh inserts shape highlights
Four rear inserts are supplied with the lens. They shape out-of-focus points of light into a rounded triangle, butterfly, four-leaf clover, or star. The inserts alter how light passes through the lens, and Brightin Star notes they may darken the corners. They are included with the lens, rather than optional add-ons.

For the clearest result, use the inserts with a scene that has distinct bright points in the blurred background. A plain or evenly lit background may show little of the shape, and the inserts do not turn every blurred area into a crisp symbol.
Mounts, focusing and close-focus distances
The lens is designed for full-frame sensors and is offered in Sony E, Canon RF, Nikon Z, and L-mount versions. Choose the version that matches your camera: the lens has no electronic contacts and focuses manually, so do not expect autofocus or electronic communication with the body.

The front optical assembly extends in Foams. Before fitting the lens cap, switch to Prime and focus to infinity to retract the assembly.

Other specifications and practical trade-offs
Brightin Star lists a seven-element, six-group optical design, an f/2 maximum aperture, an 11-blade diaphragm, stepless aperture control, and a metal body. Digital Camera World reports that dimensions vary by mount: weight is 429–454 g and length is 70–74 mm.
The unusual control is the main distinction from a conventional 50mm prime: it lets you change highlight rendering in the lens rather than relying only on aperture or post-processing. In exchange, focusing is manual, close focus is not especially close, and the most distinctive effects require suitable background lights. The available coverage does not provide comparative sharpness or image-quality test results, so it does not establish that this lens outperforms other 50mm options on those measures.

When Brightin Star’s US product page was accessed on 7 October 2026, it displayed a sale price of $349.99 and a regular price of $399.99. Digital Camera World’s 30 September 2026 launch coverage reported $349.99/£263.99; another report from that date described $399/£302 as retail and showed a $349.99 preorder listing. These figures reflect different sale, preorder, or retail contexts, not a settled checkout price for every market. Check the listing for your region for current availability and cost.
