The Breville Oracle Touch BES990BSS pairs touchscreen drink controls and automatic grinding, dosing, tamping, and milk texturing with a conventional 58 mm portafilter. It is a feature-rich option for buyers who want less manual preparation without giving up espresso-machine controls—but Breville marks the US model discontinued, so it is now best considered as remaining or used stock. Buy only after checking the unit’s condition, seller, included accessories, return terms, warranty applicability, and local service options.
What the Oracle Touch BES990BSS does
The Oracle Touch automates several steps that are manual on a traditional espresso setup. On its touchscreen, you can select a drink, adjust coffee strength and milk texture or temperature, and save up to eight personalized drinks. Breville lists espresso, long black, latte, flat white, and cappuccino as drink options. Its US product page describes an integrated grinder and automated grind, dose, and tamp into the portafilter.
This is not a capsule machine: it uses a 58 mm portafilter, and the workflow still involves preparing and handling espresso equipment. The distinction matters if you want a one-touch beverage with minimal interaction, or if you want to control more of the preparation yourself.
How the brewing and milk systems work
Breville lists two stainless-steel boilers, a heated group head, and PID temperature control. The dual boilers allow brewing and steaming to happen at the same time. The manufacturer also specifies low-pressure pre-infusion followed by 9-bar extraction. These are stated product specifications, not independent measurements of shot quality or temperature stability.

The integrated conical burr grinder has 45 grind settings. Breville specifies a 22 g dose and automatic dosing and tamping into the 58 mm portafilter. Milk texturing is automated, with user adjustment for texture and temperature. This combination is intended to reduce repetitive preparation while retaining a portafilter-based workflow.
Size and fit
For the US configuration, Breville lists dimensions of 16.2 × 15.2 × 14.4 inches. The Australian BES990BSS listing from CHOICE gives 45 × 39 × 38 cm, illustrating that regional listings may use different specifications. Measure the available counter depth and overhead clearance, and check the dimensions for the exact regional model and suffix you are considering.

Is the Oracle Touch discontinued?
Yes. Breville’s US product page states, “This model has been discontinued.” The page still provides support and documentation links, but discontinued status means buyers should not assume new stock, warranty coverage, or service availability will be the same in every country or through every seller.
CHOICE’s Australian page lists AUD $3,499 and a two-year warranty. Those are figures on a regional product listing, not a verified current offer or a universal price and warranty promise. Availability and terms depend on location and seller.

What to check before buying remaining or used stock
- Confirm the model: Check the BES990BSS suffix and the regional configuration against the seller’s listing and machine label.
- Inspect condition and service history: Ask whether the machine has been serviced and request details of any faults or repairs.
- Verify what is included: Confirm the portafilter, baskets, water filter, cleaning items, and other accessories listed for that specific sale.
- Get the terms in writing: Check the return window and whether any warranty transfers, remains valid, and applies in your country. Do not assume manufacturer coverage.
- Check repair support first: Identify a service provider and parts source for your region before committing to a discontinued machine.
ProductWise’s July 2026 page summarizes owner reports of reliability and repair concerns. Those reports are not an independently measured failure rate, so they should be treated as reasons to ask about service history and repair access—not as proof that a particular unit is likely to fail.
Maintenance and water-filter replacement
Breville’s BES990 instruction manual recommends soaking the water filter before installation and replacing it after three months. The machine’s listed accessories include a water filter and cleaning kit. Follow the BES990 instruction manual for the full cleaning and descaling procedures, and use supplies clearly identified as compatible with the BES990.

Who should consider it?
The Oracle Touch is most relevant to someone who wants touchscreen drink selection, automated grind-dose-tamp, and automatic milk texturing alongside a portafilter setup. Its configurable drinks offer convenience, while its size and hands-on equipment workflow make it less suited to buyers seeking a compact or nearly maintenance-free appliance.
There is not enough accessible independent test evidence here to make a defensible verdict on taste, consistency, milk quality, or ease-of-use scores. CHOICE identifies the Australian model as semi-automatic, but its detailed expert, taste, ease, milk-frothing, and consistency results are member-only. Compare alternatives on workflow, milk control, counter fit, service access, and upkeep rather than assuming a head-to-head performance result.
