The Breville LAD358 combines a desiccant dehumidifier with an air-purification function. Breville rates it for rooms up to 50 m² and claims extraction of up to 8 litres per 24 hours; those are manufacturer specifications, not independently verified results. Its 4 L tank holds less water than the maximum amount it is rated to extract in a day, so frequent emptying—or a suitable drain connection—may matter in damp conditions.
What the Breville LAD358 does
The LAD358 is a desiccant dehumidifier with an air-purification function. Breville describes desiccant technology as particularly suitable for cooler environments; that is the manufacturer’s general comparison, not a published head-to-head test of this model. The unit also produces heat while operating, which may be welcome in a cool room but uncomfortable in a warm or enclosed one.
Its stated coverage of up to 50 m² and extraction of up to 8 litres per 24 hours are manufacturer claims. Actual moisture removal depends on conditions, and the figures should not be read as independent measurements or guaranteed results for every room.

Breville rates the LAD358 at up to 8 litres of extraction per 24 hours, while its 2024 instruction book specifies a 4 L tank. The first figure is a daily extraction capacity; the second is how much water the tank holds at one time. When the tank is full, the unit indicates this and shuts off automatically.

For less hands-on emptying, Breville says the included 1 m hose can be used for continuous gravity drainage where a suitable drain is accessible. The drain must be positioned so water can flow by gravity; check the manual’s setup instructions and your room layout before relying on continuous drainage.
Which modes are available?
- Auto: Automatic operation.
- Continuous: Continuous dehumidification.
- Laundry: Uses high fan speed and a 30% relative-humidity target.
- Purify Only: Runs the purification function without dehumidifying.
The last mode makes the LAD358 usable as an air purifier when moisture removal is not wanted, though its filter claims should be understood as claims about filter performance rather than guarantees about whole-room air or health outcomes.

Will it warm the room?
Breville’s 2024 instruction book warns that operation may raise room temperature by 1°C to 4°C, especially in an enclosed space. This is a manufacturer warning, not an independently measured result. Consider the effect before using the unit in a small bedroom or another space where added warmth may be uncomfortable.
What filter does the LAD358 use, and how often should it be replaced?
The LAD358 uses Breville’s LAD070 AntiViral HEPA-13 filter alongside a washable pre-filter. Breville advises cleaning filters at least monthly and says not to wash the HEPA-13 filter. Its recommended replacement interval for the LAD070 is about 4 to 6 months or 2,160 operating hours, depending on the environment and use. Follow the manual and inspect the filter; the interval is guidance, not a guarantee that every filter will last that long.

Breville’s LAD070 page claims reductions of 99.97% for SARS-CoV-2 particles, 99.99% for Influenza A particles, and 99.97% removal of fine particles and allergens down to 0.3 μm, citing ISO 18184 testing. These are Breville’s filter-material claims. They do not establish a reduction in whole-room exposure, prevent infection, or demonstrate clinical outcomes.
Breville lists the LAD070 as compatible with the LAD358. Its Australian product page showed a price of A$64.95 and out-of-stock status when reviewed; price and availability can change, so check the page before buying.

How does it compare with Breville’s Smart Dry BAD708?
Breville’s Australian product pages list these manufacturer-stated specifications. They are not directly comparable laboratory measurements.

The LAD358 may suit someone prioritizing desiccant operation in cooler conditions and a separate purification mode. The BAD708 has higher stated coverage and extraction, but those figures alone do not establish which model performs better in a particular room. Compare the room’s climate and moisture load, tolerance for added heat, purifier needs, filter replacement costs, and available drainage before choosing.
What independent testing is publicly available?
CHOICE lists the LAD358 and identifies it as a desiccant model, but its public page does not show the expert rating or detailed test results; those are available to members. No public numeric independent score, measured energy cost, or measured noise result is established by that page. For a stronger performance comparison, look for accessible comparative testing that reports measured water removal, power consumption, noise, ease of use, and running costs.
