What is the Breville Nespresso Vertuo Creatista BVE850?
The BVE850 is a Nespresso Vertuo capsule machine with an automatic steam wand built into the appliance. Breville says the machine reads the code on each Vertuo capsule to adjust extraction settings. It lists five brew formats: Espresso, Double Espresso, Gran Lungo, Mug, and Carafe. For milk recipes, the product page also describes a double-click option that shortens the coffee extraction.

For latte macchiato, the manual gives a different order: pour the textured milk into the glass before extracting the coffee. It recommends fridge-temperature, semi-skimmed pasteurized milk for ideal froth; that is the manufacturer’s recommendation, not a guarantee for every milk or preference. Breville lists the machine at 8.98 × 16.41 × 12.64 inches and identifies stainless steel construction. The US/Canada manual specifies 120 V, 60 Hz, 1500 W, a 2 L / 67.6 fl oz water tank, and a weight of 8.7 kg / 19.2 lb. Confirm the electrical requirements and manual for your market before buying; these voltage details apply to the US/Canada manual, not every region.
The listed accessories are a stainless-steel milk jug and a steam-wand cleaning tool. Tom’s Guide’s 2026 buying guide lists six drink sizes, including 5, 8, 12, and 18 oz coffees plus single and double shots, and gives a 67 fl oz water capacity. Those are the guide’s listed specifications; Breville and the model manual describe the formats and tank figure differently.

What does cleaning the milk system involve?
The integrated wand avoids needing a separate milk frother, but it does not eliminate cleanup. After each use, the manual directs users to wipe the wand with a clean damp cloth once it has returned to its lowered position and self-purged, and to wash the milk jug. Its daily cleaning instructions also call for removing, emptying, and rinsing the drip tray, cup support, capsule container, and water tank.
The manual separately describes a coffee-system cleaning cycle, clearing the steam-wand tip holes with the supplied tool, and descaling with Nespresso descaling liquid. It says not to put machine parts in the dishwasher except the steam-wand tip. This is a meaningful routine for anyone prioritizing minimal post-drink work, but the instructions alone do not establish that the BVE850 is harder to maintain than competing machines.

Tom’s Guide’s 2026 Nespresso buying guide calls the Vertuo Creatista its “Best Nespresso machine for milky drinks.” It lists customization, premium appearance, and hands-free steaming as strengths, and “Super expensive” and “Milk overheats easily” as drawbacks. These are Tom’s Guide’s editorial judgments; the assessment here does not independently test temperature or value.
The guide’s value comparison is useful: a buyer may find a similar milk wand on an espresso machine at a similar price, while the Creatista is aimed at someone who specifically prefers Nespresso’s single-serve format. The relevant comparison is not simply whether it makes milk drinks, but whether the Vertuo range, automatic milk convenience, cleaning routine, counter space, and carafe or travel-mug use suit your daily habits.
