Its clearest strengths on paper are its slim listed width and two programmable drink sizes; the trade-offs are reliance on Nespresso Original capsules and a small spent-capsule capacity on the Australian version. Whether it is worth buying depends on your local price, bundle and warranty—not just the machine’s size.
What is the Breville BEC220 Essenza Mini?
BEC220 is Breville’s model designation for an Essenza Mini variant. Breville’s instruction manual groups the BEC220 and BEC250 within the Essenza Mini family, so check the label and regional specifications for the exact unit you are considering. The manual also lists electrical specifications by geography; verify voltage and warranty before buying imported or marketplace stock.
The machine is built around two programmed choices. Breville’s US product page says it offers “2 programmable cup sizes for espresso and Lungo coffees.” That makes it a focused option rather than a machine with a broad menu of drink types or independently documented volume settings in every market.

Breville’s US listing gives dimensions of 3.3 × 13 × 8 inches (width × depth × height). The narrow listed width may help when counter space is tight, but the depth still matters: measure the available space, including room to access the water tank and capsule compartment.

Breville Australia lists dimensions as 8.4 × 32 × 20.5 cm. The regional listings use different units and their ordering or rounding is not perfectly aligned, so use the dimensions published for the market and version you plan to buy rather than treating one listing as a universal specification.
What does it make, and which capsules does it use?
Nespresso Australia identifies the Essenza Mini as a machine for Nespresso Original capsules, brewing Espresso and Lungo. It is not evidence of compatibility with Nespresso Vertuo capsules. If you already buy capsules, confirm they are Original-compatible; if not, factor their ongoing cost and local availability into the purchase decision.

Breville Australia lists programmed volumes of 40 ml for Espresso and 110 ml for Lungo. Treat those as specifications for that Australian listing, not guaranteed settings for every regional BEC220. The machine’s two-size approach suits buyers who want those straightforward options; it is less suitable if you expect an extensive menu of built-in drink styles.

Breville’s Australian listing gives the following specifications for its regional version. They should not be generalized to every BEC220 sold elsewhere.

Bundle contents also differ by market. Breville’s US listing mentions a tasting box and an Aeroccino frother, while its Australian listing specifies a tasting box of capsules. Check the retailer’s exact box contents rather than assuming a frother is included. For milk-based drinks, the frother can matter to the overall value; the machine’s stated Espresso and Lungo options alone do not establish that a particular bundle will meet that need.
Is the BEC220 worth it?
It is a plausible fit if you want a narrow machine, prefer capsule convenience, and are content with Espresso and Lungo from the Original system. The Australian listing’s small water tank and five-to-six-capsule bin suggest more frequent refilling and emptying than a larger-capacity setup, although the actual routine depends on how often it is used.

Price is market- and time-sensitive. Breville’s US page displayed $179.95 when accessed in 2026; that is a US listing value at that time, not a current or global price guarantee. Compare the live price with the contents of the local bundle, warranty terms, and your expected Original-capsule spending. The available specifications do not establish comparative value against other machines.
