The Breville Smart Dry Connect LAD208WHT is a compact-room dehumidifier with app-connected controls, a laundry mode and both tank and continuous-drain options. Breville’s 2024 instruction booklet specifies up to 10 litres of extraction per day in warm, humid conditions, but only 5 litres per day at a milder test condition. Those are manufacturer figures, not a promise of everyday results. The model’s stated room limit is up to 30 m²; publicly visible CHOICE information does not provide enough test data to establish an independent performance verdict.
How much water does the Breville LAD208WHT remove per day?
Breville’s 2024 LAD208/308 ANZ instruction booklet gives two capacity figures, each tied to its own temperature and humidity conditions:

These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements or guaranteed daily output in a particular home. Dehumidifier capacity depends on the conditions in the room, so do not compare the 10-litre figure directly with another model’s rating unless the temperature and humidity conditions match.

The Breville booklet specifies the LAD208 for rooms up to 30 m² and lists its weight as 9.5 kg. That makes the manufacturer’s stated positioning a room of modest size rather than a whole-home solution. Breville says the appliance reduces and maintains humidity, and notes that 40–60% relative humidity is commonly considered comfortable; that range is general guidance in the manual, not a health guarantee.

There is a discrepancy in public specifications: CHOICE’s public listing gives 50 m² and 9 kg, alongside a claimed 10 L/day. The visible listing does not establish why those figures differ from Breville’s booklet or whether they refer to a different revision or market. For the Australian LAD208 model covered by the 2024 ANZ booklet, the booklet is the more specific baseline. CHOICE’s expert rating and detailed test scores are not publicly visible.
How the tank and continuous drain work
The LAD208 has a removable 2.5 L tank. When the tank is full, the appliance stops dehumidifying. Since the tank is smaller than the manufacturer’s daily extraction figures, it may need emptying more than once in sufficiently damp conditions; the booklet does not establish a particular fill interval.

Using the tank
Install the tank correctly and empty it when full. The appliance must still have the tank correctly installed when using the drain hose. Breville says not to drink collected water or give it to animals or plants.

Using continuous drainage
The unit supports gravity-fed continuous drainage through the included hose. This can reduce the need to empty the tank, provided the hose is routed so water can drain away. The booklet does not describe this as a pumped drain, so plan for a suitable lower drain point.

Modes, controls and connected features
The instruction booklet confirms Wi-Fi and app control, two fan speeds, a humidity indicator and several operating modes. Retailer listings also describe voice-assistant support and two-stage filtration; those are retailer feature claims rather than details independently assessed here.

Noise, power and room temperature
Breville’s 2024 booklet lists 42 dB and 200 W for the LAD208. These are booklet specifications, not independent measurements. One Australian retailer listing gives 350 W, so the wattage is inconsistent across published material. Check the appliance’s nameplate and the documentation for the exact unit before relying on a power figure. CHOICE’s public page does not expose its noise or power measurements, or its energy-efficiency score.

Breville warns that the dehumidifier produces heat and may raise room temperature by 1°C to 4°C, especially in an enclosed space. It is therefore worth considering room ventilation and placement if you plan to run it in a small, closed room.
Setup and basic care
- Place the appliance with at least 30 cm of clearance above it and 20 cm at the sides, front and back, as Breville specifies.
- Install the filter and tank correctly. The tank must remain correctly installed even if you connect the drain hose.
- Use a 230 V or 240 V outlet, as stated in the booklet, and follow the instructions for the exact unit.
- Choose the tank or gravity-drain arrangement, then select a mode suited to the task: Auto for humidity control, Laundry to assist indoor drying, or Ventilation when you only want air circulation.
For maintenance beyond routine cleaning, Breville directs owners to an authorized service centre.

Is the Breville LAD208WHT worth considering?
It has a practical feature set for buyers seeking a dehumidifier for a room up to Breville’s stated 30 m² limit: app-connected controls, humidity management, a laundry mode and a choice of tank or continuous drainage. Its capacity claims are useful only when read alongside their specified conditions, and the 2.5 L tank means continuous drainage may be helpful during sustained damp weather.
This is not a test-led recommendation. CHOICE’s public page withholds the expert rating and detailed water-removal, energy, ease-of-use, noise and power results behind membership. If independently measured performance or running cost is central to your choice, the available public evidence does not settle those questions.
Australian availability and model details
Australian listings use LAD208WHT and, in some cases, the suffix LAD208WHT2IAN1. Retailers including David Jones, Harvey Norman Australia and JB Hi-Fi have listed the product, but price and stock can change. Confirm the exact model suffix, current availability and applicable Australian warranty terms with the seller before purchase. Retailer pages report a two-year warranty; check the current listing and warranty documentation for the unit you are buying.
