The Breville Combi Wave 3 in 1 is worth considering if you will regularly use its air-fry, convection, and microwave functions and want them in one countertop appliance. Its controls are easy to use and it runs quietly, according to RTINGS, but its footprint is substantial and RTINGS measured slower microwave heating than the advertised output might suggest. If you mainly reheat or defrost food, a dedicated microwave may be a better fit.
What the Breville Combi Wave 3 in 1 does
The BMO870 combines an inverter microwave, convection oven, and air fryer. Breville also lists grill cooking, Fast Combi programs that combine cooking methods, Cook from Frozen, and 19 built-in smart presets on its US product page. Breville describes the appliance as a way to combine those three primary functions; that description is a product claim, not an independent finding about cooking results.
Its main appeal is versatility: it can handle microwave tasks as well as browning and crisping that a conventional microwave does not offer. The tradeoff is that the extra functions come in a body that takes up considerable counter space. Whether that exchange makes sense depends on how often you would use the additional modes.
How well does it perform?
RTINGS published its review on September 24, 2026, using Methodology v1.1. It found the dials easy to use and the appliance quiet, but reported that microwave heating was slower than expected for the advertised 1100W output. In RTINGS’ tests, heating rate at 100% power was 586W, and average noise at 100% power was 45.7 dBA. These are RTINGS test results, not manufacturer ratings.

RTINGS also found the cooking chamber small relative to the counter space the unit occupies. That distinction matters: the stated capacity is 32L (1.1 cu. ft.), but a capacity figure alone does not tell you whether your usual dishes or cookware will fit comfortably. Check the interior dimensions and the outside footprint against your kitchen and the items you plan to cook.
US and Australian specifications are different
Electrical ratings, dimensions, warranty terms, and accessories depend on the exact regional model. Do not treat the BMO870 as having one universal specification.

Does it replace a microwave and air fryer?
It can consolidate several cooking functions into one appliance, but that does not guarantee it will replace separate devices equally well for every household. The Combi Wave offers air-fry, convection, and grill options alongside microwave cooking; the compromise identified by RTINGS is comparatively slow microwave heating and a chamber that feels small for the counter space used.

- It is a weaker fit if your routine is mostly reheating and defrosting, or if counter space and fast microwave heating are your priorities.
For readers chiefly seeking a microwave, RTINGS identifies Breville’s Smooth Wave as a more compact option with a larger chamber and faster heating. That comparison reflects RTINGS’ review and should not be assumed to describe every regional listing or current price. The Combi Wave’s differentiator is its additional convection, air-fry, and broil functions.
Controls, presets, and accessories
Breville lists Element iQ, Power Smoothing inverter technology, shortcut controls, a soft-close door, and a child lock on the US model page. The 19 smart presets are a manufacturer-listed feature count; they do not establish that the appliance will outperform another model. RTINGS’ assessment of easy-to-use dials is an independent review finding.

Breville lists a Combi Crisp Pan and trivet among the US model’s included accessories, and the Australian listing also identifies the pan and trivet. Accessory availability and what comes in the box can vary by regional variant or retailer. For a replacement pan or other part, verify that it fits your exact BMO870 suffix rather than relying on the product family name.

Consider it if the combination of microwave, air-fry, and convection cooking solves a real kitchen need and you have enough counter space for the appliance. Before buying, compare your available space with the dimensions for your regional model, consider whether the stated chamber capacity suits your cookware, and decide how much you value quiet operation and straightforward controls versus microwave speed.

If you primarily need a microwave for everyday reheating, defrosting, and larger dishes, RTINGS’ findings make the Combi Wave a less compelling choice. Its additional modes may not justify the footprint if you rarely use them.
