The Breville Barista Touch BES880 is built for people who want an integrated grinder and guided, touchscreen espresso workflow without giving up every manual control. Breville lists customizable drinks and automatic milk texturing, but those features alone cannot establish how well the machine pulls shots or textures milk in a particular kitchen. Its appeal is convenience; the trade-offs to weigh are counter space, routine cleaning and water care, and a price that should be checked in your market before buying.
What the BES880 is—and what this review can establish
The BES880 is the original Breville Barista Touch model, not the newer Barista Touch Impress. Breville’s U.S. listing identifies its SKU as BES880BSS1BUS1 and describes an espresso machine with an integrated grinder, touchscreen drink menu, saved settings, and automatic milk texturing. Breville also says users can texture milk manually. These are documented features, not independent findings about ease of use or drink quality. Breville’s U.S. product listing
The available product documentation does not establish espresso taste, shot consistency, milk texture, noise, reliability, or defect rates. If those determine your purchase, arrange a hands-on demonstration or look for a test that identifies its methods and compares machines under the same conditions. Individual owner reports can be useful for spotting questions to ask, but they do not establish how common a problem is.

Presets, saved drinks, and adjustments
Breville lists five pre-programmed café favorites and eight customizable coffee settings. The controls include one- or two-shot selections, adjustable grind control, and programmable milk temperature and texture. The machine also offers hot water. Breville’s “Swipe, select and customize” wording is a product-page heading, not evidence that the interface will suit every user.

This layout may appeal if you want a menu-driven starting point and the option to save preferences. It may be less compelling if you prefer to control every stage without navigating a screen. The listing describes the available controls; it does not show how much adjustment is possible in practice or how quickly a novice can learn the workflow.
Integrated grinder and extraction claims
The U.S. specification lists 30 grind settings and hardened-steel conical burrs. Breville also advertises low-pressure pre-infusion followed by nine-bar extraction, a 15-bar Italian pump, and PID temperature control. These are manufacturer specifications and claims; pump pressure or the presence of PID control does not by itself prove a particular shot’s flavor or temperature stability.

Milk texturing: automatic option, manual alternative
Breville describes hands-free milk texturing with programmable temperature and texture settings, as well as manual milk texturing. It also lists automatic steam-wand cleaning. That combination offers a choice between a more automated routine and hands-on control, but the product listing cannot tell you whether the resulting texture or temperature will match your preference. If milk drinks are central to your routine, test the function with the milk you use and assess both the result and cleanup.

One U.S. specification block lists the machine at 15.7 × 12.6 × 12.4 inches and 21.8 pounds, with a half-pound bean hopper and a 67-ounce water tank. Another product-page variant surfaced with different dimensions. Treat those measurements as a starting point, not a guaranteed fit: confirm the live specifications for your exact regional SKU, then measure the available counter area and clearance for the hopper, water tank, and access during cleaning.

Cleaning, water care, and ownership
Water treatment and routine cleaning are part of owning this machine: Breville lists a water filter and cleaning kit, and the machine has automatic steam-wand cleaning. Use the official BES880 instruction book for setup, filter handling, cleaning, descaling, and troubleshooting. Match the manual’s region and revision to your machine. Before ordering replacements, verify the part number and compatibility; the available product information does not establish ongoing supply costs or a universal service interval.

Price, warranty, and regional checks before buying
Breville’s U.S. product listing states a two-year warranty. That term should not be assumed for another country, purchase channel, or later date; check the warranty that applies to the exact SKU and seller. The U.S. product page has shown inconsistent prices and discount displays, so a search-result figure is not a durable value benchmark. Check the live price and package details on the same date you compare alternatives.
- Confirm that the listing is for BES880, not a Barista Touch Impress or another regional variant.
- Check the current price, included accessories, dimensions, electrical requirements, and applicable warranty on the seller’s live listing.
- Compare machines in the same market and at current prices; do not infer better value from features alone.
Who should consider the Barista Touch BES880?
A plausible fit
Consider it if an integrated grinder, touchscreen presets, saved drink settings, and the option of automatic milk texturing match the way you want to make coffee. The listed manual milk-texturing option may also matter if you want an alternative to automation.
Reasons to pause or compare
Look closely at other options if your priority is independently demonstrated drink quality, a smaller footprint, minimal maintenance, or a fully manual workflow. The available evidence does not support a performance or reliability ranking against named competitors. Compare alternatives using the same criteria: controls and adjustments, verified footprint and capacities, included items, regional warranty and repair support, replacement-part availability, and current price.
Verdict
The BES880’s case is a feature-led one: integrated grinding, a guided touchscreen menu, customizable settings, and automatic or manual milk texturing. Those conveniences may justify consideration for a home routine that values them, but the manufacturer’s specifications cannot settle questions of taste, usability, durability, or value. Verify the exact regional model, fit, package, warranty, and live price—and seek comparable hands-on evidence if cup quality is your deciding factor.
