Brazilian assets rallied sharply on Monday, October 5, 2026, after the first round of the presidential election. According to a CNBC report, Flávio Bolsonaro performed better than expected, and investors and prediction-market traders now see him as the favorite in the October 25 runoff against incumbent Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The candidate is Flávio Bolsonaro, not Jair Bolsonaro.
The figures below come from copies of the CNBC report published by other sites. We have not independently checked them against B3, ETF issuers or the prediction platforms.
What moved after the first round
The report describes a broad rally across Brazilian equities and Brazil-linked U.S. securities. Each instrument is a different kind of measure, so they are listed separately.

Why investors reacted
The report’s explanation is about expectations. Flávio Bolsonaro’s result beat expectations, which raised the odds of a Bolsonaro win in the runoff. Investors reportedly see him as friendlier to markets because he promised greater fiscal discipline.
That is a statement about investor sentiment. It is not a verified forecast of policy or returns, and the report does not show that the election result alone caused each price move. A runoff is still ahead, and polls, campaign promises and a final result could all change the picture.

How to read the numbers
- Separate traded prices (index, ETF, bank shares) from prediction-market odds. They measure different things.
- Do not treat a one-day jump as a trend. The moves reflect a change in expectations ahead of a runoff that has not yet happened.
- The two copies of the report we saw are secondary reproductions of one CNBC article, so they are not independent confirmation of each other.
The Bottom Line
On the report’s account, a better-than-expected first-round showing by Flávio Bolsonaro pushed Brazilian stocks sharply higher and lifted his runoff odds on prediction markets. It is a shift in expectations, not a settled outcome. The October 25 runoff decides the presidency.
