Neither platform wins outright for a Brazilian newsletter. Mailchimp’s Free plan limits you by audience size, capping stored contacts at 250. Brevo’s Free plan limits you by daily volume, allowing storage for up to 100,000 contacts but only 300 sends per day. Which one fits depends on how many people are on your list and how often you mail them. Plan terms below reflect the vendor pages as checked in early October 2026, and both companies change pricing, so confirm the current figures on the linked pages before you pay.

The two free tiers are built on different constraints, so the same list can fit one and break the other.

Mailchimp Free caps two things at once: the number of contacts you can keep, and the volume you can send. Its limits are 500 sends per month and 250 per day. Mailchimp states that sending pauses if you exceed contact or sending limits, so a campaign that runs past a cap can stop mid-schedule rather than simply being trimmed.
Brevo Free works on a daily ceiling. Its documentation states that unused email sends do not carry over to the following day. A large stored list does not mean the whole list can be reached on one day. Some worked examples make the difference concrete:
- A 240-person list sent twice a month fits Mailchimp Free: 480 sends per month is under the 500 cap, and 240 in one day is under the 250 daily cap. It also sits just under the 250-contact ceiling, so any growth forces an upgrade.
- A 5,000-person list sent once a week cannot stay on Mailchimp Free at all, because the contact cap is 250. On Brevo Free, the contacts can be stored, but a single pass through the list at the 300-per-day cap takes about 17 days (5,000 ÷ 300, rounded up), assuming nothing else goes out that day. That makes Brevo Free unsuitable for a weekly full-list newsletter at this size.
- A 150-person list sent daily is a poor fit for Mailchimp Free, since 150 × 30 days is 4,500 sends a month, far above the 500 monthly cap, while Brevo Free’s 300-per-day limit covers 150 recipients each day with room to spare.
The first two examples show why the free-tier comparison comes down to list size and cadence, not to which headline number looks larger.
Paid plans: compare the exact tier, not the starting price
Mailchimp’s plan comparison expresses monthly sends relative to the contact maximum for each tier, so the send allowance grows with the audience you select. Brevo’s documentation lists paid starting prices by tier and sends volume, with contact storage limits listed separately. Because the two companies structure tiers differently, a cheaper starting price on one side does not guarantee a cheaper plan for your list.

Brevo’s paid tiers add capabilities such as broader automation and reporting, depending on the tier you choose. Mailchimp’s automation step allowances also differ by plan. Before choosing, list the specific automations you need, such as a welcome series with branches, and confirm which tier includes them on each vendor’s comparison page.
What you will pay in Brazil
Mailchimp’s Portuguese pricing page shows non-USD values as estimates. Its notice says the final amount may vary with the exchange rate applied at payment processing, and that applicable taxes and fees are added on top. In its own words: “O valor final pode variar.” The official material reviewed does not establish a guaranteed fixed price in Brazilian reais.
Brevo’s help documentation lists its prices in US dollars: Free at $0 per month, Starter from $9 per month, and Standard from $18 per month. These are starting list prices, not confirmed Brazilian checkout totals. The Brevo Portuguese help article states: “Envios de e-mail não usados não acumulam para o dia seguinte.” That line refers to the daily limit, not to pricing.

For a real cost comparison, open each vendor’s checkout with your Brazilian billing details and compare three numbers: the final amount in reais, any exchange-rate or card-processing effect, and the tax line. Then compare that total with the plan that covers your contact count and send volume.

Channel availability is the point most likely to be misread. Mailchimp states that SMS is available in selected markets with a paid marketing plan, and that it requires an application and approval. The sources reviewed do not establish that Mailchimp SMS is offered in Brazil, so treat it as unconfirmed until your account shows it.
Brevo offers prepaid SMS credits as an add-on across its plans. Prepaid WhatsApp credits are available only on its Professional and Enterprise plans. Brevo’s Portuguese plan documentation is the place to confirm how those credits are sold and charged for a Brazilian account.
If your newsletter is email-only, these channel differences do not affect the decision.

The plan documentation for both platforms covers limits, prices and features. It does not include comparative deliverability, engagement or campaign-performance data for Brazilian senders, so neither platform can be credited with better inbox placement on the evidence available. Your own results will depend largely on your list quality, your permission and consent practices, and how your sending domain is authenticated. Test a small permission-based segment on each platform before moving your full audience.

Which platform fits which newsletter
- Choose Mailchimp if your list stays under 250 contacts and sends fit within 500 per month and 250 per day, or if you can pay for a tier whose contact limit and included features match your plan.
- Choose Brevo if you have a larger stored list but send to it in smaller daily batches within 300 per day, or if a paid tier’s automation and channel features match your workflow.
- Do not choose either on the basis of SMS or WhatsApp until your Brazilian account confirms the channel and its per-message cost.
Before you commit
- Recheck the current limits and prices on the Mailchimp pricing page and the Brevo plan documentation.
- Calculate monthly sends as campaigns multiplied by recipients, and check each vendor’s rule on pauses or overage.
- Run a Brazilian checkout test to see the final reais amount and taxes.
- Confirm any SMS or WhatsApp channel you plan to use is available for your account and country.
